2. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: (overview) The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) recognizes ten employees each year for outstanding service to students, parents, coworkers and customers. Eliot Guernsey is being honored as the Employee of the Month for February for his outstanding skills and accomplishments on the job, dedication to exceptional service and commitment to excellence.

STUDENT RECOGNITION: (overview) As part of the County Board of Education Student Recognition Program, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) recognizes five students each year who have overcome significant obstacles to reach their personal and academic goals. Saneya Howard is being honored as the Student of the Year for Regional Occupational Program and Curriculum and Instruction for her academic achievements, leadership skills, good attendance, citizenship and character and perseverance in pursuing her goals.

A. *Public Hearing on Charter School Petition Renewal for Rocketship Mateo Sheedy (overview) The Rocketship Mateo Sheedy Charter School was approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Education (County Board) on October 18, 2006, after it was denied by San Jose Unified School District Board of Trustees. The County Board renewed the petition in February 2010 for the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2015. On March 12, 2015, the Office of Innovative Schools of the Santa Clara County Office of Education received a renewal petition from Rocketship Mateo Sheedy seeking renewal of its charter. California Education Code Section 47605(b) requires that "no later than 30 days after receiving a petition ... the governing board of the school district shall hold a public hearing on the provisions of the charter, at which time the governing board of the school district shall consider the level of support for the petition by teachers employed by the district, other employees of the district, and parents." This item will be placed on the County Board agenda for a vote on April 25, 2015. (Toni Cordova)
