2. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: (overview) The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) recognizes ten employees each year for outstanding service to students, parents, coworkers and customers. Cathie Parshall is being honored as the Employee of the Month for April for her outstanding skills and accomplishments on the job, dedication to exceptional service and commitment to excellence.
3. STUDENT RECOGNITION: (overview) As part of the County Board of Education Student Recognition Program, the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) recognizes five students each year who have overcome significant obstacles to reach their personal and academic goals. Damian Hernandez is being honored as the Student of the Year for Alternative Schools and Isha Smith is being honored as the Student of the Year for Foster Youth Services for academic achievements, leadership skills, good attendance, citizenship and character and perseverance in pursuing their goals.

C. *Request Approval to Accept a Non-Competitive Grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation for Advancing Summer Matters Initiative through Technical Assistance Capacity Building (overview) The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) would receive $400,000 from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation from March 2015 - May 2016 to support the diverse needs of ASAPconnect, a project of SCCOE that supports afterschool summer learning programs. Administration recommends approval to accept a non-competitive grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation for Advancing Summer Matters Initiative through Technical Assistance Capacity Building. E. *Request Approval of the Head Start Self-Assessment Action Plan (overview) Head Start programs are required by federal regulations to conduct an annual self-assessment and submit a plan of action for areas of improvement to the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). The Head Start Self-Assessment Action Plan needs to be approved by the Board of Education and the Head Start Policy Council. Administration recommends approval of the Head Start Self-Assessment Action Plan. (Dr. Mary Ann Dewan)

F. *Request Appointment to the Town of Los Gatos' RDA Oversight Board (overview) Mr. Tom Woodruff, former Assistant Superintendent/CBO at Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, is currently the Primary representative to the Town of Los Gatos' Redevelopment Agency RDS Oversight Board. Mr. Woodruff retired, therefore the County Board of Education needs to appoint a new Primary representative to the Town of Los Gatos' RDA Oversight Board. Administration recommends that the Santa Clara County Board of Education appoint Ms. Yen Lam, Advisor, District Business and Advisory Services Department to replace Mr. Woodruff as the primary appointment to the Town of Los Gatos' RDA Oversight Board. A. *Decision on Charter School Petition Renewal for Rocketship Los Sueños
(overview) The Rocketship Los Sueños Charter School was approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Education (County Board) on June 17, 2009 for the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2015. On March 12, 2015, the Office of Innovative Schools of the Santa Clara County Office of
Education received a renewal petition from Rocketship Los Sueños seeking renewal of its
charter. On March 18, 2015, the County Board held a public hearing on the charter school petition for renewal. California Education Code Section 47605(b) requires that "following review of the petition and the public hearing, the governing board of the school district shall either grant or deny the charter within 60 days of receipt of the petition, provided, however, that the date may be extended by an additional 30 days if both parties agree to the extension. Staff recommends that the Board approve the renewal petition for Rocketship Los Sueños for the period July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2020. In addition, staff recommends that the assurances proposed in the staff analysis with respect to fiscal matters be incorporated into a new Memorandum of Understanding. (Toni Cordova)

B. *Decision on Charter School Petition Renewal for Rocketship Mateo Sheedy (overview) The Rocketship Mateo Sheedy Charter School was approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Education (County Board) on October 18, 2006, after it was denied by San Jose Unified School District Board of Trustees. The County Board renewed the petition in February 2010 for the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2015. On March 18, 2015, the County Board held a public hearing on the charter school petition for renewal. California Education Code Section 47605(b) requires that "following review of the petition and the public hearing, the governing board of the school district shall either grant or deny the charter within 60 days of receipt of the petition, provided, however, that the date may be extended by an additional 30 days if both parties agree to the extension. Staff recommends that the Board approve the renewal petition for Rocketship Mateo Sheedy Elementary for the period July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2020.
