A. *Public Hearing on the Renewal to Summit Public Schools: Tahoma Charter Petition (overview) On October 8, 2015, the Charter Schools Office of the Santa Clara County Office of Education received the Petition for the renewal of the Summit Public Schools: Tahoma Charter School.This school was approved as a grades 9-12 charter school in 2010 and opened in fall 2011. This item will be placed on the December 9, 2015 board agenda for a decision. (Dr. Angelica Ramsey)

B. *Request Approval of Primary and Alternative Appointments to RDA Successor Agency Oversight Boards (overview) Updates to the RDA Successor Agency Oversight Board appointments are necessary due to the recent resignation of Kolvira Chheng. Administration recommends approval of the primary and alternative appointments to the RDA Successor Agenda Oversight Boards. (Superintendent Gundry)

7. ACTION ITEM
A. *Renewal of the Silicon Valley Flex Academy Charter School for the period July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2021 (overview) The charter for Silicon Valley Flex Academy expires on June 30, 2016. This countywide charter school was approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Education on March 16, 2011 and opened in fall 2011. On September 9, 2015, the Charter Schools Office of the Santa Clara County Office of Education received a petition from Silicon Valley Flex Academy seeking renewal of the charter. California Education Code Section 47607 (a) (1) requires that "each renewal shall be for a period of five years." If the charter were to be renewed by the County Board, the new term of the charter would begin on July 1, 2016 and end on June 30, 2021. The Education Code requires that "the governing board of the school district shall either grant or deny the charter within 60 days of receipt of the petition." On September 16, 2015, the County Board held a public hearing on the charter school petition for renewal. (Dr. Angelica Ramsey)

A. *History/Social Sciences/Civic Engagement Initiative Update (overview) The History/Social Sciences/Civic Engagement Initiative holds two main events during the year: Mock Trials and National History Day. For the 2015-16 school year, the Curriculum & Instruction Department will develop a civic education initiative which will focus on middle and high schools in Santa Clara County. Staff will present an update on the initiative. (Dr. Angelica Ramsey)

B. *Alternative Education Department Enrollment Quarterly Report
(overview) This report will provide an overview of student enrollment of the Santa Clara County Office of Education's eight programs on six school sites (Court Schools: Blue Ridge and Osborne; Community Schools: Odyssey, Snell, Sunol and Terrabella). (Dr. Mary Ann Dewan)

C. *First Reading of Recommended Deletion of Board Policy 5141.4 (overview) On October 21, 2015, the Policy Development Subcommittee met and approved the recommended deletion of Board Policy 5141.4 Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting. This is being brought for First Reading and then for approval (Second Reading) on November 18, 2015. (Vice President Anna Song)

(overview) On October 21, 2015, the Policy Development Subcommittee met and approved the revision of Board Policy/Exhibit 6163.4 Student Use of Technology and Board Policy 9250 Board Compensation, Benefits and Travel Reimbursement.
