Background
The Board President will introduce the purpose of the Special Meeting and introduce the guest moderator, John Fensterwald. Mr. Fensterwald has been in the newspaper business for over 30 years, as a reporter, editor and now editorial writer on newspapers in New Hampshire and the Bay Area. He is editor-at-large at EdSource, the largest source of education news and issues in California, where he writes on K-12 policies. He brings experience moderating forums for Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

The SCCOE Charter School team will provide a presentation of standard protocols and practices utilized and discuss their alignment with quality charter school authorizing.

Background
Interested community members representing perspectives of the community including districts, charter schools, school boards and other community organizations will participate in a dialogue with the Board moderated by John Fensterwald. The dialogue is meant to help foster a positive, productive, and meaningful communication with all stakeholders around SCCBOE authorizing, monitoring and oversight practices and fostering collaboration between the county, charter and districts. The three topics of focus for this dialogue are authorizing, monitoring and oversight practices, and foster collaboration between the county, charter , and districts. Interested participants will be provided a Dialogue Participation Sheet to complete.
At this time, members of the public may address the Board on any issue within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board that is not listed on this agenda. Members of the public may also address the Board on an agenda item before or during the Board's consideration of the item. No action can be taken on an item not on the agenda at this time, but may be referred to the administration or put on a future agenda. In accordance with Board Bylaw 9323, individual remarks will be limited to 3 minutes each, unless otherwise stipulated.
