Background

On December 19, 2017 the Trustee Area 2 seat was vacated when Board Member Michael Chang submitted his resignation to the County Superintendent.  The Board must make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy by February 17, 2018 or order an election to fill it.  If the Board fails to take either action, the Education Code requires that the County Superintendent order an election to fill the vacancy.

The Ad Hoc Process Committee appointed by Board President Rosemary Kamei on January 17, 2018 developed a process to fill the vacancy and interview candidates; the process was approved by the full Board on February 7, 2018.  The Committee has found that all candidates that applied are eligible and recommend that they be interviewed by the full Board.  The candidates for the vacancy are as follows: Allison Becker, Kathleen M. King, John Mumy, Naomi N. Nakano-Matsumoto, and Gilbert Wong.

Board Action

The Board will interview candidates for the Trustee Area 2 seat and either pass a resolution making a provisional appointment or pass a resolution calling for an election to fill the vacancy.
