Background
As part of our Student Recognition Program, The Santa Clara County Board of Education takes time throughout the year to applaud students who excel in Santa Clara County Office of Education programs – many of whom overcome significant obstacles to reach their personal and academic goals.
Specifically, the Board honors students for academic improvements and achievements; leadership skills; good attendance, good citizenship, and character; community service accomplishments; and perseverance in pursuing their studies and goals.

Background
Norman Mineta, a San Jose native, was a champion for civil liberties and social justice. He broke racial barriers as a civil servant at both the local and national levels; representing San Jose as both a City Council Member and as mayor.
Student Impact
This proclamation celebrates the life of Norman Mineta and the civil liberties and social justice that he championed. Uplifting the celebration of his life helps to educate the students of Santa Clara County on the importance of civic engagement, diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Background
The California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Program is being utilized by California in 2022 in place of the California Distinguished Schools (DS) Program. Due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state law has suspended the reporting of state and local indicators on the 2020 and 2021 California School Dashboard (Dashboard).
California is recognizing districts and elementary and middle and high schools that have completed an Online Application highlighting a pivotal practice that they implemented during the 2020–21 school year when California required schools to offer distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine school districts and 10 schools within Santa Clara County were CAAP award winners.
The 12 schools from Santa Clara County included Sherman Oaks Elementary, Evergreen Valley High, Union Middle, Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy, Sunrise Middle, Rocketship Academy Brilliant Minds, Rocketship Alma Academy, Rocketship Discovery Prep, Rocketship Los Suenos Academy, Rocketship Mateo Sheedy Elementary, Rocketship Rising Stars, and Rocketship Si Se Puede Academy.
The nine districts recognized were Berryessa Union School District, Campbell Union High School District, Campbell Union School District, Gilroy Unified School District, Los Altos School District, Luther Burbank School District, Milpitas Unified School District, Mountain View Whisman School District, and Saratoga Union School District.

Background
The Classified School Employees of the Year (CSEY) Program highlights contributions of classified school employees who support the education of California’s more than six million public school students from preschool through grade twelve. The CSEY Program pays tribute to the tireless efforts of our states outstanding classified school employees. From school bus drivers to cafeteria workers to instructional aides, these employees are the unsung heroes who play key roles in creating a school environment that contributes to the whole child by promoting student achievement, safety, and health.
