YOU KNOW, WE TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE WORK FROM OUR COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION ON CLIMATE LITERACY. WE TALKED ABOUT THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY CLIMATE LITERACY COALITION, WHICH TRUSTEE PACHECO AND I ARE CO-PRESIDENTS OF, TO HELP MOBILIZE MORE SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO INCREASE CLIMATE LITERACY. AND THIS IS STARTING WITH A COALITION OF LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY. WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT STATE ADVOCACY EFFORTS, ALSO FUNDING FOR THE LAUNCH OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY YOUTH CLIMATE INITIATIVE TO BE HOUSED IN THE COUNTY OFFICE OF SUSTAINABILITY. AND WE PRESSIE PACHECO WAS ABLE TO GIVE A TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVE, SO THAT WAS GREAT. AND THE SECOND MEETING I WASN'T ABLE TO ACTUALLY ATTEND BUT WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT IN FREMONT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT IN TRUSTEE AREA TOO, THEY HAVE LAUNCHED THE PH. D STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION FOR THAT HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING. I HOPE THAT THIS CAN SERVE AS A MODEL FOR OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS, WHICH IS THEIR GOAL. AND SO THEY HAD THEIR FIRST MEETING, THE SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION ON NOVEMBER 14. AND SO THIS INCLUDES STUDENT LEADERS IN THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB, ALSO SILICON VALLEY YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION TO MEET WITH THEIR FACILITIES. AND BOND DIRECTOR AND ALSO OTHER STUDENT LEADERS ARE GOING TO BE PART OF THE NEW STUDENT SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION FOR THAT HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. SO THAT'S SUPER EXCITING. THE TWO THINGS I WANTED TO REPORT WAS THAT I ATTENDED THE BIG LIFT COLLABORATIVE MEETING THAT WAS HELD IN REDWOOD CITY AT THE CHAN ZUCKERBERG INITIATIVE BUILDING IN REDWOOD CITY. THE BIG LIFT IS SAN MATEO COUNTY'S COUNTY OFFICE OF ED PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SUPERVISOR CAROL GROOM, AND ALSO WITH THE SILICON VALLEY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. THEY HAVE A WONDERFUL PROGRAM THAT WAS STARTED REALLY OVER TEN YEARS AGO. IS KIND OF A CELEBRATION AT THIS MEETING TO NOT ONLY COMMEMORATE TEN YEARS OF THIS COLLABORATIVE WORK AND A LOT OF MONEY THAT WAS CONTRIBUTED FROM ALL OVER, INCLUDING FEDERAL GRANTS, BUT TO ALSO HONOR SUPERVISOR CAROL GROOM, WHO WAS REALLY INITIATIVE AND MAIN INITIATIVE AND TO GET THE SAN MATEO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO BUY IN REALLY WITH A CARVE OUT FROM THEIR BUDGET AND START THE MONEY ROLLING WITH MATCHING FEDERAL GRANTS AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. THEY ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS MEETING STRATEGIC PLANNING AND DISCUSSIONS FOR WHAT'S KIND OF NEXT IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS. SO THAT WAS A GREAT MEETING. I ALWAYS HOPE THAT OUR STRONG START COALITION WOULD GROW UP INTO A BIG LIFT COLLABORATIVE. THE OTHER THING I DID WAS I ATTENDED AS OBSERVER TO THE BUDGET STUDY COMMITTEE MEETING TODAY. THANK YOU. AND SO THIS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED IS ACTUALLY PAVING PATHWAYS FOR PEOPLE, FOR EDUCATORS TO START IN THE CLASSROOMS, GETTING PAID FOR THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING IN ORDER TO GET THEM FULLY CREDENTIAL TO BE IN THESE PROGRAMS. AND SO THEY'RE ABLE TO START WITH US AND THEN CONTINUE TO GROW AND HELP FILL THESE POSITIONS THAT WE SO DESPERATELY NEED AND SERVING OUR COMMUNITY. AND THAT WAS FANTASTIC. BUT WHAT WAS EVEN BETTER TO HEAR ABOUT THAT IS ONE OF OUR PARENT MEMBERS, AND I BELIEVE THE CHAIR OF OUR POLICY COUNCIL ACTUALLY TOLD US THAT THIS INFORMATION ALSO HAD GONE OUT TO THE PARENTS, AND I THINK THAT WAS FANTASTIC AND JUST REALLY DOING WORK IN GETTING MORE EDUCATORS, ESPECIALLY FOR OUR HEAD START PROGRAMS. THEREFORE, IN JULY 2003, CC BOE RECEIVED THE CHARTER PETITION ON APPEAL AND AUTHORIZED IT IN SEPTEMBER 2003 FOR A THREE YEAR TERM FROM JULY ONE, 2004 TO JULY 30, 2007, THE SCHOOL OPENED AS A K6 AND EXPANDED EXPANDED TO A K8, PURSUANT TO A MATERIAL REVISION THAT WAS APPROVED IN FEBRUARY 2008. FROM 2003 UNTIL TODAY, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL LEGAL ACTIONS INITIATED BY BOTH BY AND AGAINST BOTH BCS AND LASD REGARDING FACILITIES AND ENROLLMENT PREFERENCES. THE LASD COMMUNITY HAS LARGELY SPOKEN IN OPPOSITION TO THE RENEWAL OF OF BULLIS AND HAS CALLED UPON THIS THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION TO REQUIRE BULLIS TO MAKE CHANGES TO ITS PETITIONS AND OPERATING PRACTICES. AND IN FACT, IN 2012, LASD PARENTS SUBMITTED A PETITION TO THE BOARD SEEKING REVOCATION OF THE BULLIS CHARTER. THE BOARD REVIEWED THE PETITION AND FOUND IT NOT TO MEET ANY OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH A CHARTER CAN BE REVOKED. MOST RECENTLY LASD PARENT COMMUNITY I'M SORRY, MOST RECENTLY THE LA SD PARENT COMMUNITY AND DISTRICT OFFICIALS HAVE VOICED CONCERNS THAT BULLIS HAS ENGAGED IN SYSTEMATIC DISCRIMINATION VIA ITS LACK OF EQUITABLE ACCESS TO ALL STUDENTS. AND THOSE ARE THE WORDS OF THE PARENT COMMUNITY AND THE DISTRICT. ON FEBRUARY 28TH, 2022, SCCOE SENT A LETTER REQUESTING THE SCHOOL DEVELOP A PLAN THAT INCREASED THE DIVERSITY OF THE STUDENT POPULATION CONSISTENT WITH THE UPCOMING CHANGES TO STATEWIDE LAW. BULLIS'S RESPONSE WAS AFFIRMATIVE, BUT LITTLE TO NO ACTION TOOK PLACE. ON JULY 1ST, 2020, AB 1505 MADE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE CHARTER SCHOOLS ACT. ONE SUCH CHANGE REQUIRED CHARTER SCHOOLS TO ACHIEVE A BALANCE OF STUDENTS FROM RACIAL, ETHNIC, SPECIAL EDUCATION AND LEARN ENGLISH LEARNER BACKGROUNDS THAT IS REFLECTIVE OF THE GENERAL POPULATION RESIDING WITHIN THE TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION OF THE DISTRICT. AND THEN IN MARCH 2001, SCCOE AGAIN REACHED OUT TO BULLIS WITH A LETTER THAT SERVED TWO PURPOSES. THE LETTER FIRST SERVED TO NOTIFY BULLIS OF SCCOE'S DETERMINATION THAT BULLIS IS DEMONSTRABLY UNLIKELY TO SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM SET FORTH IN ITS EXPECTED CHARTER RENEWAL PETITION BECAUSE OF NOT SERVING ALL STUDENTS WHO WISH TO ATTEND. THE LETTER SECONDLY PROVIDED BULLIS WITH A REASONABLE OPPORTUNITY TO CURE THE VIOLATION BY PROVIDING AND IMPLEMENTING A CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN. SO DUE TO AB 1505 EDUCATION CODE NOW STATES THAT A CHARTERING AUTHORITY MAY DENY RENEWAL OF A CHARTER SCHOOL AND ANY OF THE THREE PERFORMANCE CATEGORIES. AND IF YOU RECALL, I TALKED ABOUT THE HIGH, MIDDLE AND LOW PERFORMING CATEGORIES UPON A FINDING THAT THE SCHOOL IS DEMONSTRABLY UNLIKELY TO SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM SET FORTH IN THE PETITION DUE TO EITHER SUBSTANTIAL FISCAL OR GOVERNANCE FACTORS, OR TO NOT SERVING ALL PUPILS WHO WISH TO ATTEND. SO AB 1505 MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR ANY CHARTER SCHOOL, REGARDLESS OF ITS PERFORMANCE, TO BE DENIED ON THIS BASIS. [01:40:09] IN MAKING THE DECISION, HOWEVER, THE AUTHORIZER MUST PROVIDE AT LEAST 30 DAYS NOTICE TO THE CHARTER SCHOOL OF THE ALLEGED VIOLATION, AND MUST ALSO PROVIDE THE CHARTER SCHOOL WITH A REASONABLE OPPORTUNITY TO CURE THE VIOLATION, INCLUDING A CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN PROPOSED BY THE CHARTER SCHOOL. SO IF YOU RECALL, MARCH 20, 2021, WE PROVIDED THEM WITH A NOTICE TO CURE, AND AS A RESULT, THEY CREATED THEIR ENROLLMENT ACTION PLAN. SO FURTHER, THE CHARTERING AUTHORITY MAY THEN DENY RENEWAL ONLY AFTER MAKING EITHER OF THE FOLLOWING FINDINGS. SO FIRST, THE CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN PROPOSED BY THE CHARTER SCHOOL HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL, OR THE VIOLATIONS ARE SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE AND PERVASIVE AS TO RENDER THE CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN UNVIABLE. SO THE DATA WE'RE LOOKING AT TONIGHT WILL HELP US TO DETERMINE WHETHER BULLIS CHARTER SCHOOL IS ON A PATH THAT WILL MAKE, YOU KNOW, THAT SHOWS US THAT THEIR CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN HAS BEEN OR IS GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT BULLIS DID DO IN ORDER TO POTENTIALLY HELP MOVE THEIR STUDENT POPULATION CLOSER TO BEING REFLECTIVE OF LA IS TO REQUEST A MATERIAL REVISION. SO IN AUGUST 2021, BULLIS REQUESTED TO REVISE ITS ADMISSION POLICY AND PROCEDURES TO ADD ADMISSION PREFERENCES, NUMBER TWO AND NUMBER SEVEN. THOSE ARE THE TWO IN BOLD FONT FOR STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEALS AND LIVE WITHIN AND OUTSIDE LASD FOR UP TO 10% OF ITS OPEN SPACES BY GRADE LEVEL. THE PURPOSE WAS TO IMPROVE THE LOTTERY CHANCES FOR STUDENTS FROM LOW SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS. CBOE APPROVED THE REVISED PREFERENCES IN SEPTEMBER 2021 AND BULLIS BEGAN OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2223 SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH IS THIS CURRENT YEAR THAT WE'RE IN WITH A NEW PREFERENCES AND HELD ITS LOTTERY IN FEBRUARY 2022. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. ADDITIONALLY, BULLIS, IN ITS ENROLLMENT ACTION PLAN, HAD FOUR MAIN STRATEGIES AND ONE OF THE STRATEGIES WAS TO EXPAND EXPAND ITS SUMMER CAMP, WHICH IS A WEEK LONG DAY CAMP FOR INCOMING SECOND THROUGH SIXTH GRADERS FROM LOS ALTOS AND MOUNTAIN VIEW. AND IT ALLOWED STUDENTS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEALS TO ATTEND THE CAMP FOR FREE. AND PRESUMABLY THEY INVITED THOSE STUDENTS TO THEN APPLY FOR A. ADMISSION THROUGH THE BULLIS LOTTERY. THEY ALSO INCREASE THEIR COMMUNITY OUTREACH. THEY EXPANDED THEIR CONTACT LISTS AND HAD OUTREACH COORDINATORS VISIT DIRECTLY ORGANIZATIONS AND SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE OPEN ENROLLMENT PROCESS WITH FAMILIES THAT THOSE ORGANIZATIONS OR ORGANIZATIONS SERVED. THEY. ALSO HOSTED OUTREACH EVENTS AT THE SAN ANTONIO NEIGHBORHOOD, INCLUDING APARTMENT COMPLEXES, PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS, CHURCHES, TEMPLES AND OTHER COMMUNITY CENTERS AND HIGH VISIBILITY AREAS SUCH AS SUPERMARKETS, RESTAURANTS AND LAUNDROMATS. AND THEN THEY ALSO ENGAGE SOME FAMILY AND STAFF MEMBERS AS AMBASSADORS OF BULLIS. ADDITIONALLY, THEY IMPROVE THEIR WEBSITE, THEIR ADVERTISING AND THEIR PRINT MATERIALS AND SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT BULLIS WELCOMES ALL STUDENTS BY USING IMAGES AND MESSAGES AND WORD CHOICE TO HIGHLIGHT THE DIVERSITY OF THE COMMUNITY AND SHOW THE SCHOOL PROVIDES A FULL CONTINUUM OF PLACEMENTS AND SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. AND THEY UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE RELATED TO THE MATERIAL RELATED TO MATERIALS TO CLEARLY INDICATE THAT NO MONETARY DONATIONS ARE REQUIRED OR EXPECTED. AND THEN FINALLY, THEY EMPHASIZE THAT BULLIS ATTENDANCE AT BULLIS IS FREE. SO MORE THAN 900 STUDENTS APPLIED. 307 OF THOSE STUDENTS WERE OFFERED A SEAT AT BULLIS FOR THIS CURRENT YEAR. 159 OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO WERE OFFERED A SEAT ACTUALLY ENROLLED AT THE SCHOOL. AND OF THOSE WHO WERE OFFERED A SEAT, 12 STUDENTS RECEIVED A SEAT UNDER PREFERENCE NUMBER TWO. AND NINE OF THOSE STUDENTS WHO WERE OFFERED A SEAT UNDER PREFERENCE, NUMBER TWO ENROLLED AND ONE STUDENT SOMEHOW ENDED UP BACK ON THE WAITLIST FOR PREFERENCE. NUMBER SEVEN, THERE ARE 30 STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY FOR FREE OR REDUCED PRICE MEALS, WHO LIVE OUTSIDE OF LASD, AND THEY WERE NOT OFFERED A SEAT. THEY REMAINED ON THE WAITLIST. AND I WANT TO NOTE THAT, YOU KNOW, IF YOU LOOK AT THE TABLE, YOU CAN SEE UNDER 2022-2023, THE MOST RECENT DATA, AND YOU'LL SEE THAT THE BIGGEST NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO WERE ADMITTED WERE IN TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN OR KINDERGARTEN. BUT EVEN THOSE ARE SMALL NUMBERS, AND THE NUMBERS GET EVEN SMALLER AS YOU GO UP THE GRADES. SO THAT'S IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE'LL AND WE'LL COME BACK TO THAT. TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER. SO WHEN WE SENT THE MARCH 21, 47607E NOTICE AND NOTICE OF CONCERN TO BULLIS, WE CRUNCHED DATA AND FOUND THERE WAS A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT GAP IN STUDENT ENROLLMENT AND FOR DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS WE FOUND THE BULLETS DID NOT REFLECT LASD ENROLLMENT IN STUDENTS WHO ARE HISPANIC, LATINO ENGLISH LEARNERS, SOCIO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED AND STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES. SO THIS TABLE SHOWS HOW THE DATA FOR THOSE FOUR SUBGROUPS HAVE CHANGED OVER FIVE YEARS FROM 2018-19 TO 2022-23. AND THEN IT ALSO SHOWS HOW THE DATA HAS CHANGED FROM THE LAST SCHOOL YEAR TO THIS CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. SO WE CAN SEE THAT OVER A FIVE YEAR PERIOD WHEN STUDENTS OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE DATA, THERE HAS BEEN A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN ENGLISH LEARNERS AND AT LASD AT I'M SORRY AT BULLIS AND AT LASD SO THOSE ARE THE PINK CELLS. AND THAT'S PERHAPS DUE TO EITHER STUDENTS DECREASE IN ENROLLMENT OR IT COULD BE THAT BOTH LEAS ARE DESIGNATING STUDENTS AS FLUENT ENGLISH PROFICIENT. SO THERE COULD BE A COUPLE OF NUMBERS FOR THAT REASONS FOR THAT. WE ALSO SEE THAT OVER A FIVE YEAR PERIOD, LASD HAS STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED IN STUDENTS WHO ARE HISPANIC, LATINO AND IN STUDENTS WHO ARE SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED. AND THOSE ARE THE SALMON CELLS. HOWEVER, WHEN WE LOOK AT THE CHANGE IN DATA FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR TO THIS SCHOOL YEAR, SO THE COLUMN THAT SAYS ONE YEAR CHANGE, WE SEE THAT THERE THAT THERE WERE NO STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT INCREASES OR DECREASES AT BULLIS OR LASD FOR ANY OF THE RELEVANT SUBGROUPS. SO MOVING ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. UM. THIS CHART SHOWS A COMPARISON OF THE FOUR SUBGROUPS AT BOLUS IN LA SD. SO IF YOU TAKE A LOOK, YOU'LL SEE THAT THE BLUE DOT REPRESENTS BOLUS. THE GREEN DOTS REPRESENT LASD AND THE RED DASHED LINE INDICATES A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT GAP. AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE TABLE, YOU WILL SEE THAT BULLIS HAS A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT LOWER PROPORTION IN ALL FOUR GROUPS. IT'S LOWER THAN LASD AND EACH OF THE FOUR SUBGROUPS WHEN THE DATA SET INCLUDES STUDENTS WHO RESIDE OUTSIDE OF [01:50:07] LASD. SO WHEN WE INCLUDE STUDENTS, ALL THE STUDENTS WHO ARE ATTENDING BOTH SCHOOLS AS THE SCHOOL AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. WE STILL SEE THAT THERE IS A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT GAP IN THE ETHNIC RACIAL ENGLISH LEARNER BALANCES. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. AND WHEN WE EXCLUDE STUDENTS WHO ARE RESIDING OUTSIDE OF ASD, WE FIND THE SAME RESULTS. EXCEPT THAT ON THIS CHART YOU CAN SEE THAT THE STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES NO LONGER SHOWS A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE. BUT ALL OTHER GROUPS CONTINUE TO HAVE A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE. AND SO BECAUSE MOST OF THE SEATS AVAILABLE WERE IN KINDERGARTEN, WE DECIDED TO DO AN ANALYSIS OF KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE TO SEE IF BULLIS ENROLLMENT ACTION, IF THE BULLIS ENROLLMENT ACTION PLAN HAD ACTUALLY MADE AN IMPACT ON THE BALANCE OF STUDENTS FROM VARIOUS RACIAL, ETHNIC, ENGLISH LEARNER AND SPECIAL NEEDS BACKGROUNDS. AND SINCE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE KINDERGARTEN FIRST GRADE ANALYSIS IS SO MUCH SMALLER THAN WHEN WE COMPARED ALL OF THE STUDENTS AT ALL GRADE LEVELS, WE MADE A DECISION TO CHANGE THE SIGNIFICANCE LEVEL. FROM 5% TO 10% SO THAT WE COULD MAKE THE TEST MORE MEANINGFUL. BUT YOU SHOULD NOTE THAT MEANS THAT WE ARE BASED ON THIS. WE ONLY KNOW THAT WE CAN ONLY BE 90% CONFIDENT THAT THE DIFFERENCES THAT WE SEE ARE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT RATHER THAN THE 95% CONFIDENCE. THAT IS USUALLY WHAT STATISTICIANS LOOK FOR. SO WHAT WE SEE IS THAT IN 21-22, THE PROPORTION OF KINDERGARTNERS WHO ARE SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER AT BLISS THAN AT LAST. AND THE PROPORTION OF FIRST GRADERS WHO WERE HISPANIC, LATINO ENGLISH LEARNERS OR SOCIO ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED WERE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER AT BULLIS THAN LA SD. AND THEN IN 2223, THE PROPORTION OF KINDERGARTNERS WHO ARE HISPANIC LATINO IS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER AT BULLIS THAN AT LASD, AND THE PROPORTION OF KINDERGARTNERS WHERE ENGLISH LEARNERS IS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER AT BULLIS THAN AT LASD. HOWEVER, THERE WAS AN INCREASE, A SIGNIFICANT SORRY, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN THE PROPORTION OF FIRST GRADERS AT LASD VERSUS [01:55:08] SOCIOECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED IN 21 AND 21-22 TO 22-23. AND SO I THINK THAT BULLIS HAS MADE SOME CHANGES THAT WILL MAKE IMPACT, BUT IT'S GOING TO TAKE TIME. I'M AWARE THAT THE THAT SEIU HAS FILED A CAL OSHA COMPLAINT ALLEGING WORKPLACE VIOLENCE RELATED TO ACTIONS OF STUDENTS AND OUR PROGRAMS OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES AND WANT TO JUST HONOR AND SAY TO THE FAMILIES OF THE STUDENTS WE SERVE WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT IS FOR OUR OFFICE TO SERVE THE MOST SIGNIFICANTLY DISABLED STUDENTS IN OUR COUNTY AND ASSURE THEM OF OUR COMMITMENT TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH HIGH QUALITY SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMING AND SUPPORT, AND TO THANK ALL OF THE TEACHERS AND PARA EDUCATORS AND STAFF MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS WITH SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES. AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL POSSIBLE. I ALSO WANT TO THANK ALL OF MY ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM MEMBERS WHO ARE WORKING TIRELESSLY UNDER SOME VERY DIFFICULT SITUATIONS, AND I WANT TO ASSURE THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY THAT OUR NEGOTIATIONS TEAM HAS BARGAINED IN GOOD FAITH WITH ALL OF THE BARGAINING UNITS OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. AND SO I TO THE EXTENT THAT SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT WERE BEING RAISED TONIGHT FROM THE COMPLAINTS ARE ABOUT EMPLOYEE COMPLAINTS OR ABOUT NEGOTIATIONS, AGAIN, THAT IS OUTSIDE THE JURISDICTION OF THE BOARD. AND WHEN I FINISHED MEETING WITH THEM, I WAS WALKING DOWN THE HALLWAY AND ONE VERY ASSERTIVE YOUNG WOMAN FOLLOWED ME AND SHE SAID, YOU KNOW, I AM A PARA EDUCATOR AND I DON'T WORK. [02:30:04] I'M NOT GIVEN ENOUGH WORK TO HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. AND I NEED I DESPERATELY NEED HEALTH INSURANCE. I THINK OUR HOURS SHOULD BE INCREASED SO THAT I COULD QUALIFY TO HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. AND THE PREVIOUS SUPERINTENDENTS HAD NOT DONE THIS FOR SEIU MEMBERS. DR. DEWAN DID THAT FOR THEM, AND THEY JUST SERVE IT BY VIRTUE OF THEIR AMAZING WORK. DURING THE PANDEMIC, DR. DEWAN ENSURED THAT WE KEPT WALDEN OPEN TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL TEAM OF AMAZING EDUCATORS, PARA EDUCATORS, REMAINED WITH US. AND SO I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU DR.
