YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN WILLING TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR OUR STUDENTS AND DO WHATEVER IS ASKED OF YOU. THE BEST WAY I CAN DESCRIBE THE CHANGE THAT I'VE SEEN IN YOU IS THAT YOU REMOVED THE NOISE AND NOW HAVE CHANNELED YOUR PASSION INTO DEVELOP A QUIET STRENGTH. YOU'VE BECOME THE SALT OF THE EARTH. YOU CAN DEAL WITH DIFFICULT OR DEMANDING SITUATIONS WITHOUT MAKING ANY UNNECESSARY FUSS. YES. LIKE SALT YOU BRING OUT THE FLAVOR OF THOSE AROUND YOU AND YOU ENHANCE THEIR FLAVORS. YES. AND SALT IS A PRECIOUS THING. IT PRESERVES FOOD, IT HEALS AND IT SOOTHES AND IT'S MEDICINAL. AND ANA, YOU DRAW OUT THE BLESSING OF WHATEVER IS GOOD WITH EVERYONE AROUND YOU. NEXT WE WILL MOVE TO. PRESIDENT CHON. OH, YES. CAN I ASK SUPERINTENDENT DEWAN A QUESTION? SURE. ABOUT SEVEN TREES. I THOUGHT IT WAS RENAMED DAN LAIRON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WE? SORRY. NO, IT'S STILL SEVEN TREES ON OUR PROGRAM. [00:10:06] YEAH. OKAY. DAN? DAN LAIRON WAS A PRINCIPAL THERE. AND THE DISTRICT I WENT TO AN EVENT WHERE THEY NAMED THE SCHOOL AFTER HIM AFTER HE DIED OVER AN EASTER BREAK FROM A SUDDEN HEART ATTACK. SO IS IT. THAT'S CORRECT FROM FRANKLIN MCKINLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT. AT LEAST BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, I'M NOT SURE. I THINK THE SCHOOL DISTRICT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. BUT I THINK OUR PROGRAM IS STILL REFERRED TO AS THE SEVEN TREES CAMPUS. OKAY, GREAT. YEAH. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. OKAY. SO NEXT WE WILL GO TO PUBLIC COMMENT. [A. At this time, members of the public may address the Board on any issue within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board that is not listed on this agenda. Members of the public may also address the Board on an agenda item before or during the Board's consideration of the item.] NOW IS THE TIME FOR THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO MAKE PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS THAT ARE NOT LISTED ON THE AGENDA AND WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION. PUBLIC SPEAKER CARDS MUST BE SUBMITTED AT THIS TIME. AND ONCE WE BEGIN TAKING PUBLIC COMMENTS, WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ADDITIONAL COMMENTERS. MODERATOR DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS? OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS HEATHER BASS. JONATHAN BASS. JORGE ARELLANO AND SANDRA FALKOWSKI. IF YOU COULD LINE UP AT THE PODIUM, CLEARLY STATE YOUR NAME, AND THEN YOU CAN BEGIN SPEAKING. OUR FIRST SPEAKER. IS HEATHER BASS. HERE TONIGHT. FIRST OF ALL, MIC] BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION SINCE THAT FIRST MEETING GATEWAY STAFF HAS TO THE. THANK YOU TO THE PLAY AREA DURING AND AFTER THE PROJECT COMPLETION DURING THE CONSTRUCTION SO THAT THAT ASSURED ONE THIRD OF THE FIELD AND PLAY STRUCTURE IS A HUGE BENEFIT FOR US AND WE ARE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO YOUR ATTENTION AND CONCERN FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. AND NOW THAT THE CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN, IT JUST STARTED TODAY. WE'VE HAD THE GATE PUT UP AND WE CERTAINLY DO HAVE ACCESS TO THAT PLAY FIELD. THE CONCERNS WE HAVE NOW HAVE GOTTEN PARENT ATTENTION AND PARENTS ARE NOW COMING TO ME ASKING ME WHAT KIND OF CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE THERE'S GOING TO BE. AND I CAN'T GIVE THAT INFORMATION. I HAVE NOT HEARD I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AS FAR AS DISRUPTIONS, NOISE, LARGE EQUIPMENT, ANY OF THOSE KINDS OF ACTIVITIES ON THE CAMPUS THAT MIGHT IMPACT THE STUDENT'S LEARNING. AND ONCE THE PROGRAM BEGINS, TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC AND ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL IS A MAJOR ISSUE. I'D LIKE TO REQUEST A FORMAL TRAFFIC STUDY AND ASSURED FUNDING FOR THE HIRE OF DAILY CROSSING GUARDS BECAUSE WE HAVE MANY CAMPUSES. GILROY HIGH, GLENVIEW, GATEWAY, EARLY START WILL OPEN AND HEAD START WILL OPEN AS WELL. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT TINY LITTLE RESIDENTIAL STREET WILL BE SAFE FOR ALL OF THOSE PEDESTRIANS AND THE TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF INCREASED TRAFFIC WITH CARS. I SO APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. HAVE A LOVELY EVENING AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH. OUR NEXT PUBLIC SPEAKER IS JONATHAN BASS. PLEASE APPROACH THE PODIUM CLEARLY, STATE YOUR NAME AND BEGIN YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT. GOOD EVENING. I'M JONATHAN BASS. SO I MOSTLY WANT TO EMPHASIZE WHAT HEATHER JUST STATED ABOUT THE NEED TO ENSURE THAT THERE'S SAFE TRAFFIC FLOW AND SAFE PASSAGEWAY FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO WALK INTO THE SCHOOL BECAUSE THERE'S SOME POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THERE. AND ALSO, JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I'M HERE TALKING ABOUT THIS AS A CONCERNED COMMUNITY MEMBER. HEATHER'S BEEN IN THE COMMUNITY FOR 50 YEARS. I'VE BEEN THERE FOR 30 YEARS. AND WE'RE CONNECTED. WE TALK TO PEOPLE. WE SHARE OUR CONCERNS ABOUT THE SCHOOLS WITH PEOPLE. I DO TALK ABOUT IT AT WORK AS WELL. I'M PART OF THE OTHER LOCAL EDUCATION AGENCY IN GILROY, GILROY UNIFIED. SO THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE COUNTING ON THE BOARD TO TAKE SMART ACTION TO MAKE SURE THAT [00:15:06] STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ARE SAFE AS THEY ENTER THE SCHOOL. THANK YOU. OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS JORGE ARELLANO. PLEASE APPROACH THE PODIUM CLEARLY, STATE YOUR NAME AND BEGIN YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT. I'M GOOD EVENING. SUPERINTENDENT DEWAN BOARD, PRESIDENT CHON AND TRUSTEES OF THE BOARD. I JUST HAVE TO SAY IT'S AWESOME TO BE BACK IN PERSON AND SEE EVERYBODY AGAIN. IT'S BEEN OVER FOUR YEARS AND I HAVE TO SAY IT'S JUST A VERY WARM FEELING FOR ME. SO I'M THANKFUL TO BE HERE. I JUST WANT TO WELL, FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW ME, MY NAME IS JORGE ARELLANO. I'M THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AT ALPHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS. I JUST WANT TO SHARE THAT SOME EXCITING NEWS COMING OUT OF OUR COMMUNITY. ALPHA CORNERSTONE, A SANTA CLARA COUNTY AUTHORIZED CHARTER SCHOOL WAS RECOGNIZED BY OUR STATE SUPERINTENDENT RECENTLY AS THE ONLY HIGH PERFORMING MIDDLE SCHOOL IN SAN JOSE TO MAKE THE CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS TO WATCH LIST. AND WE'RE PROUD TO BE ONE OF ONLY THREE SCHOOLS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA TO MAKE THE LIST FOR THE GREAT EDUCATION WE ARE PROVIDING OUR STUDENTS. AS BOARD MEMBERS WHO AUTHORIZE AND PROVIDE OVERSIGHT TO OUR SCHOOLS, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE YOU WERE AWARE OF THIS IMPORTANT RECOGNITION THAT WILL NOT BE TAKING PLACE WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING MORE ABOUT OUR GREAT WORK THROUGH OUR THROUGH YOUR VISITS TO OUR SCHOOLS AND YOUR ONGOING ENGAGEMENT WITH OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. HAVE A GREAT EVENING. OUR FINAL PUBLIC SPEAKER IS SANDRA FALKOWSKI. PLEASE APPROACH THE PODIUM CLEARLY, STATE YOUR NAME AND BEGIN YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT. SORRY. IT'S HARD FOR ME TO SPEAK CLEARLY THROUGH MY MASK. I'LL DO MY BEST. SO MY NAME IS SANDRA FALKOWSKI. I'VE WORKED WITH CCOE FOR OVER 25 YEARS, AND I'VE BEEN FIRST IN STUDENT SERVICES AND ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION. AND FOR THE LAST FIVE AND A HALF YEARS, I'VE WORKED IN TECHNOLOGY. I WANT TO SPEAK TO THE WORK FROM HOME. NOT POLICY, BUT THE PROCESS THAT WE'RE USING TO DETERMINE WHETHER PEOPLE CAN WORK FROM HOME AND WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IN WHICH THEY CAN WORK FROM HOME. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS SPOKEN ABOUT DURING NEGOTIATIONS, WAS NOT PUT IN OUR CONTRACT BY ANY MEANS. BUT OUR TEAM WAS ASSURED THAT HR WOULD WORK WITH [INAUDIBLE] OR WITH OUR MEMBERS. I FOUND THAT THAT'S NOT BEEN THE CASE. EXAMPLES THAT WERE USED AT THAT TIME WERE, YOU KNOW, PERHAPS IF YOU HAVE A CHILD AT HOME SICK, BUT YOU COULD STILL DO YOUR WORK OR PERHAPS IF YOU'RE MILDLY ILL, MAYBE I HAVE SYMPTOMS THAT MIGHT BE COVID. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE YET. I DON'T WANT TO COME TO EXPOSE ANYBODY. BUT IF I'M MILDLY ILL, I COULD STILL DO MY JOB. THAT MIGHT BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED. THOSE WERE THINGS THAT WERE TALKED ABOUT AND WE WERE ASSURED THAT WE WOULD WORK TOGETHER. AND WHAT'S HAPPENED, THE CURRENT PRACTICE THAT CAME OUT EARLY JANUARY IS THAT AN EMAIL WOULD GO TO DIANE [INAUDIBLE] IN HR AND TO OUR SUPERVISOR. AN INTERACTIVE MEETING WOULD HAPPEN AND I'M GOING TO RUN OUT OF TIME AND A DECISION WOULD BE MADE. I'M FINDING THAT THAT'S NOT THE CASE. WE STILL HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN ANY CRITERIA THAT MIGHT BE USED. I THINK THIS PROCESS IS BEING USED AS A STALL TACTIC. I DID REQUEST TIME. I HAVE A MOTHER WHO'S AT HOME IN SEATTLE SICK, AND I'VE BEEN ASKED I'VE ASKED IF I COULD GO HELP OUT. AT THIS POINT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN FIVE DAYS. MY FIRST REQUEST WENT IN ON JANUARY 24TH. I DIDN'T GET A RESPONSE AFTER AN APPEAL AND CONTINUOUS WORK UNTIL FEBRUARY 13TH SAYING, OKAY, WE'LL GIVE YOU FIVE DAYS, BUT IF YOU NEED ANY MORE THAN THAT, YOU NEED TO MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS. THIS CONCLUDES PUBLIC COMMENT. THANK YOU. YES, THIS CONCLUDES PUBLIC COMMENT. THANK YOU. NOW ON TO AGENDA ITEM NUMBER 4 CONSENT ACTION ITEMS. [A. Request Approval of Consent Action Items as listed in Item #4 Consent Action Items] I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE CONSENT ACTION ITEMS 4A AND B. [B. Request Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of February 15, 2023 (#2314)] MOVE TO APPROVE. SECOND. THAT WAS MOVED BY TRUSTEE DI SALVO. AND A SECOND FROM VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN. TRUSTEES, PLEASE VOTE IN BOARD DOCS. ARE WE WAITING ON TRUSTEE LARI. [00:20:01] OKAY. OH, VERBAL. OKAY. IS THAT A VERBAL YES? OKAY. A VERBAL YES. THANK YOU. OKAY. AND THAT MOTION CARRIES AS SIX YESES AND ONE ABSTENTION FROM TRUSTEE BERTA. THANK YOU, TRUSTEES. OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM IS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER REPORTS. [A. The members of the Board may give reports on activities related to their duties as members of the Santa Clara County Board of Education] IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE BROWN ACT INFORMATION SHARED DURING COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER REPORTS MUST ONLY INCLUDE THOSE ACTIVITIES SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO OUR DUTIES AS TRUSTEES OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION. NORMALLY WE BEGIN BY INVITING OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER TO PRESENT A REPORT. AS MENTIONED, OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER IS ILL AND UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE THIS EVENING. WE WANTED TO SEND GOOD WISHES TO OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER AND EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE FOR OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER NEVAREZ'S SERVICE AS OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. WOULD ANY TRUSTEE WISH TO PROVIDE A REPORT ON ACTIVITIES SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO OUR DUTIES AS MEMBERS OF AND WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION? OKAY. I THINK I'M JUST GOING TO GO LIKE THIS, IF THAT'S OKAY WITH EVERYBODY. SO I'LL START WITH TRUSTEE LARI. SO ON FEBRUARY 19TH, I ATTENDED A MEETING OF STACK PACK, WHICH IS WORKING ON ENCOURAGING YOUNG PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE POLITICALLY AND HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD. VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN ALSO ATTENDED. ON FEBRUARY 21ST, I WENT TO JAMES LICK HIGH SCHOOL TO ATTEND OUR FORMER PRESIDENT, PETER ORTIZ'S SWEARING IN AS SAN JOSE COUNCIL PERSON. I MET PRESIDENT CHON THERE. I HAD A MEETING WITH COUNCILMAN ORTIZ LATER THE SAME WEEK, ALONG WITH OUR CITY FOREST CEO RHONDA BERRY, TO DISCUSS EXPANDING THE URBAN CANOPY IN OUR CITY. A TREE COVER HAS MYRIAD PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS FOR OUR YOUNG STUDENTS. ON THE SAME DAY, I ALSO MET WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE OFFICE OF SENATOR FEINSTEIN, SENATOR PADILLA AND CONGRESSMAN KHANNA AS PART OF A ZOOM EVENT ORGANIZED BY THE CENTER FOR LYME ACTION TO ADVOCATE FOR GREATER RESEARCH FUNDING FOR BETTER DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPEUTICS FOR TICKBORNE DISEASES. ON FEBRUARY 25TH, I ATTENDED THE EVENT THE ADVOCATE FOR THE CIVIL RIGHTS OF OUR LGBTQ POPULATION, INCLUDING THE RIGHTS OF YOUTH TO GROW UP IN A SUPPORTIVE HOME AND COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT. ON THE SAME DAY, I ALSO ATTENDED AN EVENT TO ENCOURAGE MUSLIM LEADERSHIP. THIS HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN AN UNDERREPRESENTED GROUP IN ELECTED POSITIONS AND IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO HAVE MUSLIM ROLE MODELS TO COUNTERACT ISLAMOPHOBIA. ON FEBRUARY 26TH, I ATTENDED AN EVENT ORGANIZED BY ASSEMBLY MEMBER LEE, WHO IS ON THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION. VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN ALSO ATTENDED. ON FEBRUARY 27TH ON THE INVITATION OF DIRECTOR TINSLEY, I ATTENDED THE INFORMATIONAL MEETING ABOUT THE CAL M JOINT PROGRAM WITH SANTA CLARA HEALTH PLAN AND ANTHEM BLUE CROSS WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH TARGET POPULATIONS. THE PROGRAM STARTING JULY 1ST, 2023. IT WILL PROVIDE INTEGRATED HEALTH CARE TO YOUTH IMPACTED BY COMPLEX SOCIAL FACTORS THAT IMPACT HEALTH, SUCH AS UNSTABLE HOUSING AND FOOD INSECURITY. THE MISSION IS TO IMPROVE WELL-BEING OF MEMBERS BY IMPROVING THE HEALTH AS WELL AS ADDRESSING SOCIAL NEEDS THAT CAN BE BARRIERS TO THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. SO THEY'RE GOING TO BE ADDRESSING SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH THROUGH WHOLE PERSON CARE. FINALLY, I'VE BEEN WORKING ON HELPING TO ORGANIZE A ZOOM PROGRAM ON EQUITY BY THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS BAY AREA. IT'S ON SATURDAY, MARCH 4TH, FROM 10 A.M. TO 1 P.M. I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU ALL TO REGISTER AND ATTEND. I'M PARTICULARLY EXCITED ABOUT THE HEALTH EQUITY PANEL WE WERE ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER AND WE ARE ABLE TO HAVE SOME EXCELLENT SPEAKERS. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE LARI. TRUSTEE DI SALVO. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. TAKE OFF MY MASK. MY GLASSES FOG UP. FIRST, I WANT TO THANK VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN FOR BEING AN EXPERT SPEAKER, ALONG WITH TRUSTEE JORGE PACHECO IN MY JUSTICE STUDIES CLASSROOM LAST WEEK ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE. I KNOW MY STUDENTS WERE ENLIGHTENED BY THE INFORMATION YOU SHARED. WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT SINCE THEN, SO I THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND JORGE'S TIME AS WELL. I AM COAUTHORING AN OP ED FOR THE MERCURY NEWS HOPEFULLY WILL BE PUBLISHED HOPEFULLY IN SOMETIME IN APRIL WITH TWO TRUSTEES, ONE FROM A COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND ONE FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT. AND IT'S ON MAKING DATA STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT DATA TRANSPARENT, ALONG WITH ATTENDANCE DATA TRANSPARENT FOR EACH OF THE DISTRICTS IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY, PERHAPS SAN JOSE, SANTA CLARA COUNTY. AND BACK IN AFTER MY CAMPAIGN OF 2020, I INVITED MY CONTRIBUTORS, [00:25:09] SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE THAT CONTRIBUTED TO MY CAMPAIGN TO PARTICIPATE IN A TOWN HALL MEETING. AT THAT TOWN HALL MEETING ON THAT FALL OF 2021. I INVITED A GENTLEMAN BY THE NAME OF BEN AUSTIN TO PARTICIPATE. HE WAS EXCELLENT, AND HE WAS WORKING ON A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO MAKE QUALITY TO PUT THE WORD QUALITY IN THE CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTION RELATED TO EDUCATION. SO I LET ME READ FROM WHAT I HAVE TO BE EXACT. I USED MY RESIDUAL CAMPAIGN FUNDS TO ORGANIZE THE EVENT. THERE WERE 65 PARTICIPANTS. THE TOWN HALL WAS TRANSLATED IN SPANISH AND VIETNAMESE. THE TITLE OF THE TOWN HALL WAS EDUCATION JUSTICE. I INVITED BEN AUSTIN FROM KIDS COALITION IN LA TO BE MY KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE TOWN HALL. BEN IS NOW THE FOUNDING DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, CIVIL RIGHTS NOW! A NATIONAL NONPROFIT WITH THE MISSION OF ESTABLISHING A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO A HIGH QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN IN MULTIPLE STATES ACROSS THE NATION. EDUCATION RIGHTS CIVIL RIGHTS NOW IS A COALITION OF NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PARENTS COMMITTED TO ESTABLISHING A CIVIL RIGHT TO A QUALITY EDUCATION. THEY'RE A GROWING BIPARTISAN MOVEMENT OF CIVIL RIGHTS, EDUCATION, COMMUNITY, AND BUSINESS LEADERS TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE A PATHWAY TO A PROSPEROUS FUTURE. I SAY TO THIS TO YOU TONIGHT, BECAUSE I'VE BEEN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AS ONE OF 46 STATE EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IN THEIR FIRST ROUNDTABLE FOR THE BALLOT INITIATIVE IN 2024. AND THAT ROUNDTABLE IS MONDAY AT 3:00. FIRST ONE IS MONDAY AT 3:00. SO IT IS AN HONOR TO BE PART AND BE ASKED AND I'LL KEEP THE BOARD UPDATED ABOUT THE PROGRESS AS WE GO THROUGH. IN FACT, THE NEXT MEETING I'LL SHARE WITH YOU ON WHAT WENT ON AT THE TOWN HALL. I DON'T HAVE AN AGENDA, BUT I'M ASSUMING IT WILL BE EXCITING BECAUSE THERE'S A LIST OF INCREDIBLE PEOPLE LIKE TED LAMBERT IS ONE OF THEM THAT HAS BEEN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AS WELL. AND THAT'S IT FOR NOW. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, TRUSTEE DI SALVO. VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN. THANK YOU. SO ON THE 16TH, I WAS INVITED TO BE A GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS, CUPERTINO, SUNNYVALE THEIR COFFEE HOUR, WHICH WAS SUPER EXCITING. AND THE THEME WAS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WORK OF THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION. SO I HAD A LOT TO TALK ABOUT AND WE TALKED ABOUT STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, EARLY LEARNING, ARTS, EDUCATION, AND ESPECIALLY INTRIGUED AROUND THE COUNTY OFFICE OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT WORK AND STUDENT VOTER REGISTRATION. SO THAT WAS A GREAT DISCUSSION. AND YOU CAN CHECK OUT THE VIDEO ON THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL. AND ON THE 17TH, I ATTENDED A PROGRESSIVE GOVERNANCE LAB, WHICH IS A NEW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR SOUTH BAY ELECTED LEADERS. I ALSO ATTENDED THE DEBRIEFING SESSION HOSTED BY STACKPACK WITH TRUSTEE LARI ON THE 19TH. ALSO ON THE 19TH, I MET WITH ANDREW LIU, WHO IS A SAN JOSE YOUTH COMMISSIONER. SO WE DISCUSSED THE WORK OF THE COMMISSION AND THEIR YOUTH POLICY CONFERENCE THAT THEY RECENTLY HOSTED. I JOINED PROFESSOR DI SALVO'S CLASS WITH JORGE PACHECO JUNIOR TRUSTEE IN OAK GROVE TO DISCUSS ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AND CLIMATE JUSTICE. AND I LOVED SPEAKING TO YOUR STUDENTS. AND ON THE 25TH I ATTENDED THE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION'S LEGISLATIVE BRUNCH WITH TRUSTEE. MAH HELPED TO ORGANIZE. I KNOW PRESIDENT CHON WAS THERE, DR. DEWAN WAS THERE. SO THAT WAS A GREAT MORNING. AND WE HEARD FROM MANY LOCAL LEGISLATORS, COUNTY AND STATE. AND THEN I HAD A DISCUSSION THERE WITH A [INAUDIBLE] SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER, JIRAIYA HOGUE, AND THEY WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COUNTY OFFICES WELLNESS CENTERS. SO I WILL CONNECT HER TO THAT. THEN ON THE 25TH. I ATTENDED A YOUTH IMPACT SUMMIT, WHICH THE THEME WAS EMPOWERING YOUTH TO DRIVE CHANGE, AND THIS WAS HOSTED BY THE YOUTH DEPARTMENT OF THE NONRESIDENT NEPALI ASSOCIATION NATIONAL COORDINATION COUNCIL, AND THAT WAS A GREAT EVENT AS WELL. [00:30:04] AND THEN A COUPLE ITEMS. SO I WANTED TO LET FOLKS KNOW THROUGH THE CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY INITIATIVE, THE COUNTY OFFICE HAS A NEW PARTNER PORTAL WHICH DISPLAYS OUR NETWORK OF COMMUNITY BASED PARTNERS. YOU CAN CHECK THAT OUT ONLINE. ALSO UPCOMING, AN UPCOMING EVENT THIS SATURDAY, THE FOURTH. THERE IS A VIRTUAL CONFERENCE, WHICH LOOKS REALLY GREAT. SO IT'S THE CENTRAL CREEC, CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY PROJECT CONFERENCE OF 2023. AND SO CREEC IS THE CALIFORNIA REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COMMUNITY NETWORK THAT THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION IS A PART OF. SO THAT IS SOMETHING VERY VALUABLE HAPPENING THIS SATURDAY VIRTUALLY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN. TRUSTEE BERTA. THANK YOU. A COUPLE OF THINGS. I ALSO WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION MEETING. TRUSTEE BERTA CAN YOU PUT YOUR MICROPHONE JUST A LITTLE CLOSER? YES, THANK YOU. SO I ATTENDED THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION MEETING, AND THERE WAS A REALLY INSIGHTFUL PRESENTATION DONE BY A REPRESENTATIVE FROM LACY LEGAL ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH. AND I JUST THOUGHT THE INFORMATION WAS REALLY HELPFUL AND GREAT DISCUSSION AND QUESTIONS BY TRUSTEES ON BETTER SUPPORTING STUDENTS IMPACTED BY A VARIETY OF ISSUES, BUT I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A REALLY GREAT DISCUSSION. I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN A FIRESIDE CHAT WITH THE ISLAMIC COUNCIL. ISLAMIC CIRCLE OF NORTH AMERICA THEIR SOCIAL JUSTICE DIVISION ON WHY SCHOOL BOARDS MATTER AND THE TYPES OF ISSUES AND WAYS THAT PARENTS AND COMMUNITY CAN BE ENGAGED ON TOPICS THAT SCHOOL BOARDS AND THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION DEALS WITH. AND FINALLY, I DID. I WAS ABLE TO MEET WITH PARENTS FROM SUMMIT DENALI TO JUST HEAR CONCERNS REGARDING THEIR POTENTIAL CLOSURE OF THEIR SITE. AND SO JUST BEING A LISTENING EAR AND SEEING, YOU KNOW, ANY CLARIFICATION THAT I COULD HAVE PROVIDED FROM MY PERSPECTIVE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. TRUSTEE BERTA. TRUSTEE ROCHA. I DIDN'T SEE YOUR CARD RAISED EARLIER. OKAY. TRUSTEE MAH. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT CHON. SO I ATTENDED A WEBINAR ON THE LEGISLATIVE ACTION WEEK THAT CSBA IS HAVING. THEY THEY HAD A BRIEFING AND TRAINING TODAY, BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE, SO ANYONE CAN STILL SIGN UP. AGAIN IT'S THE LEGISLATIVE ACTION WEEK AND IT'S GOING TO BE ALL DONE REMOTELY SO ANY OF US CAN SIGN UP. I THINK THE SIGN UP DEADLINE MIGHT BE TOMORROW, SO LOOK IT UP AND SIGN UP. IT'S GOING TO BE THREE, FOUR DAYS IN VIRTUALLY WITH SACRAMENTO. AND THEY'LL HOOK US UP WITH DIFFERENT LEGISLATORS. AND THEY'RE TRYING REALLY HARD TO GET COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS TO BE IN EVERY GROUP THAT MEETS WITH LEGISLATORS SO THAT THE COUNTIES ARE KIND OF REPRESENTED, BECAUSE THERE'S GOING TO BE A BUNCH OF, YOU KNOW, DISTRICT PEOPLE, DISTRICT BOARD MEMBERS, BUT THEY REALLY WANT COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS TO BE PARTICIPATIVE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE CONVERSATION FROM A COUNTY PERSPECTIVE. I ALSO JOINED THE PROJECT SAFETY NET MEETING. IT'S A PALO ALTO BASED SUICIDE PREVENTION AND YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION. THEY PRESENTED THEIR NEW STRATEGIC PLAN AND THEY HAVE PLANS TO EXPAND BEYOND PALO ALTO. I ALSO JOINED THE SEEDS OF CHANGE UNIVERSAL PRE-K SERIES ON NURTURING, INCLUSIVE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT FOR ALL. THIS IS A SERIES OF SEMINARS SPONSORED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. THIS IS THE FIFTH ONE ON FAMILY PARTNERSHIPS AND CULTURE GUIDE, AND IT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE. AS TRUSTEE VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN MENTIONED, WE DID HAVE OUR LEGISLATIVE BRUNCH ON SATURDAY. ON YEAH SATURDAY, WE HAD 81 PARTICIPANTS. ABOUT 20 PEOPLE CAME IN BY ZOOM. WE HAD TEN LEGISLATORS. DR. DEWAN SPOKE ALSO ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH, WHICH WAS A BIG THEME. MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTERS, ALONG WITH QUESTIONS FROM THE PREPARED QUESTIONS ON THE BUDGET, ESPECIALLY FOR SPECIAL ED AND OUR DECREASING ARTS FUNDING. AND THERE IS A LOT OF INTEREST IN DISCUSSION ABOUT TEACHER PIPELINE AND TEACHER HOUSING. I ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE CALIFORNIA CENTER FOR SCHOOL CLIMATE CCSE SET OF WEBINARS ABOUT STUDENT CLIMATE, INCLUDING BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS, WELLNESS CENTERS AGAIN, AND THE PARTICULAR SEMINAR THAT WAS A REAL IMPORTANT NOTE WAS ONE THAT TALKED ABOUT THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION [00:35:04] AND THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, BECAUSE THEY HAVE PARTNERED TOGETHER TO PLACE A MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN IN EVERY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTY TO WORK FOR A CONTINUUM OF CARE AT THE SCHOOL SITES SO THAT THE SCHOOL SITES REALLY HAVE, YOU KNOW COMPREHENSIVE CENTERS OF WELLNESS. AND PART OF THAT DISCUSSION TALKED ABOUT HOW THEY WERE ABLE TO SUSTAIN THAT, HOW TO FUND IT SUSTAINABLY KIND OF INTO PERPETUITY. SO I'M GOING TO CONNECT UP ALL THE INFORMATION FROM THAT WEBINAR TO DR. DEWAN TO SEE ABOUT BEING ABLE TO FUND NOT ONLY MORE OF OUR WELLNESS CENTERS, BUT TO BE ABLE TO GET FUNDING FROM THE STATE. AND THERE WERE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF FUNDING THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO BRAID TO GET THIS DONE. SO IT WAS FANTASTIC. I ALSO ATTENDED THE EDSOURCE ROUNDTABLE, ZOOM ON WHAT'S GETTING IN THE WAY OF BLACK STUDENT SUCCESS, AND THEY TALKED A LOT ABOUT THE RACIAL INEQUITY AND HOW THERE'S YOU KNOW, WAYS TO ADDRESS IT. BUT WE'VE GOT TO DO IT AS OPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT IT. I'VE ALSO WAS FOLLOWING AND I'M SURE THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE HERE WHO WERE ALSO LISTENING IN TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVAL OF $20 MILLION DOLLARS FOR EARLY LEARNING. WOOHOO! YAY. THAT'S GOING TO GO TOWARDS FACILITIES, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, TRAINING, JUST ALL KINDS OF THINGS, REOPENING CENTERS THAT WERE CLOSED DURING COVID. AND I'M ALSO WORKING WITH DR. DEWAN TO ACCESS THE LEGAL SERVICES THAT WE CONTRACTED FROM LAST SEPTEMBER SO THAT THE BOARD WILL BE ABLE TO REQUEST SECOND OPINIONS ON LEGAL JURISDICTION QUESTIONS, OTHER LEGAL QUESTIONS THAT THE BOARD IS INTERESTED IN. AND THIS WILL BE EXPLAINED TO ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS, THE PROCESS FOR ACCESSING CSBA LEGAL SERVICES. AND MY LAST THING IS THAT I ATTENDED AND OBSERVED THE JLAC MEETING TODAY THIS AFTERNOON. THANKS. THANKS TRUSTEE MAH. FOR MY REPORT I'LL KEEP IT SHORT. THE EVENTS I ATTENDED WERE ALREADY SPOKEN ABOUT, BUT I DID ATTEND OUR PREVIOUS PRESIDENT ORTIZ'S SWEARING IN EVENT. I WAS ABLE TO GIVE A SHORT SPEECH AND MY EXPERIENCES IN WORKING WITH HIM, AND IT WAS NICE TO JUST SEE THE COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER THERE. AND THEN AS WELL AS THE LEGISLATIVE BREAKFAST WITH VICE PRESIDENT SREEKRISHNAN AND TRUSTEE MAH AND DR. DEWAN. THAT WAS IT WAS REALLY NICE TO KIND OF JUST SEE SOME FAMILIAR FACES AND JUST BE TOGETHER AGAIN. SO THAT WAS A GREAT EVENT. BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPORTS TRUSTEES. WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO THE INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION ITEMS. [A. Discussion of Assembly Bill 906 (Gipson) Court and Community School Funding Proposal] NUMBER 6. DR. DEWAN COULD YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE THIS ITEM? YES. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT CHON. TONIGHT'S FIRST INFORMATION DISCUSSION ITEM IS ABOUT ASSEMBLY BILL 906 AND I WANT TO INTRODUCE THIS ITEM TO THE BOARD AND MAKE CONNECTIONS TO ACTIONS THAT THE BOARD TOOK AT OUR LAST MEETING. I'M GOING TO INVITE CARMEN TO PLEASE POST THE POWERPOINT SO WE CAN GO THROUGH THIS. BUT AT THE LAST MEETING OF THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, YOU ADOPTED A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO ADJUST THE FUNDING FORMULA OF COURT SCHOOLS IN PARTICULAR, BUT POTENTIALLY COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS. AND WHAT I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS EVENING IS ABOUT ASSEMBLY BILL 906, WHICH IS THE COMPANION BILL OR THE ALTERNATE PATHWAY TO ACHIEVING THIS FUNDING, POTENTIALLY RECEIVING THIS FUNDING AND CHANGING THE FUNDING FORMULA. SO IN THE RESOLUTION AND OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO DATE HAVE BEEN WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ASSEMBLY MEMBER GIBSON IS DID ENTER THIS BILL BY THE BILL DEADLINE, WHICH WOULD ESSENTIALLY LOOK AT COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AS NECESSARY SMALL SCHOOLS. GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. CHANGE IS NEEDED BECAUSE SINCE THE INSTITUTION OF THE LOCAL CONTROL FUNDING FORMULA COUNTY OFFICES OF EDUCATION HAVE BEEN FLAT FUNDED. AND FOR US, WE'VE BEEN FLAT FUNDED SINCE 2013. AND IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE ARE BASIC AID COUNTY OFFICE. SO A NUMBER OF THE FUNDS THAT ARE RAISED FOR LOCAL PROPERTY TAXES, WE ACTUALLY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO RETURN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, WHICH THEY USE FOR THEIR OTHER EFFORTS. AND THE CURRENT FUNDING FORMULA IS SOLELY BASED ON ADA. WE HAVE SEEN FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS THAT WE SUPPORT DECREASES IN ENROLLMENT, IN COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, AND WE'RE CERTAINLY NOT ADVOCATING FOR INCREASES IN ENROLLMENT IN THOSE PROGRAMS. [00:40:02] HOWEVER, WE'VE MADE SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS IN THESE PROGRAMS TO ENSURE THAT THEY'RE OF QUALITY AND TO PROVIDE CONSISTENT LEVELS OF STAFFING TO MEET THE ADJUSTED NUMBERS OF STUDENTS AND THEIR NEEDS IN THE PROGRAM. NEXT SLIDE. JUST AS A QUICK SNAPSHOT FROM ONE POINT IN TIME WITHIN OUR BUDGET, LOOKING AT THE LOCAL CONTROL FUNDING FORMULA AND THE IMPACT. WE HAVE HAD TO AND APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO UTILIZE OUR GENERAL FUND, OUR FUND BALANCE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE OPERATIONS OF THE COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS. AND JUST AS ONE EXAMPLE, ON AVERAGE FOR THE ANNUAL COURT SCHOOLS DEFICIT, IT'S A LITTLE OVER $2 MILLION DOLLARS THAT WE SUPPLEMENT THE PROGRAM USING OUR GENERAL FUND. WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO THAT ONGOING, EXCEPT THAT THERE'S NO RENEWABLE FUNDING SOURCE FOR OUR GENERAL FUND. WE DON'T RECEIVE ANY REPLENISHMENT FUNDS INTO THE GENERAL FUND. AND SO AS WE CONTINUE TO USE GENERAL FUND TO FILL THIS DEFICIT OR SUBSIDIZE THE PROGRAM, WE WILL EVENTUALLY RUN OUT OF FUNDS IN ORDER TO DO THAT. NEXT SLIDE. SO THE PROPOSAL AND I WON'T GO INTO DETAIL HERE, BUT JUST THE PROPOSAL AS IT STANDS IS TO ENSURE THAT THERE'S SOME LEVEL OF BASE FUNDING FOR EACH COE COURT SCHOOL AND THEN SOME LEVEL OF BASE FUNDING FOR EACH COE COMMUNITY SCHOOL, AND THEN OPTIONS TO LOOK AT ATTENDANCE AND ENROLLMENT OR UNNECESSARY COURT SCHOOL FUNDING FORMULA AND A SIMILAR METHOD FOR THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS. SO WHERE THIS IS IN PROCESS IS THAT THE BILL HAS BEEN INTRODUCED AND HEARINGS WILL BEGIN SOON. APPRECIATE THE BOARD'S SUPPORT AND ENDORSEMENT OF THESE KINDS OF IDEAS AND WE'LL CERTAINLY KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED OF OUR PROGRESS. BECAUSE IT IS A DEFICIT FUNDING YEAR FOR THE STATE AND WE'VE BEEN HEARING CONCERNS ABOUT THE OVERALL STATE BUDGET. WE DON'T KNOW HOW SUCCESSFUL WE'RE GOING TO BE WITH THIS PROPOSAL, BUT WE DO THINK IT'S APPROPRIATE TO INTRODUCE IT AND TO CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE SO THAT WE CAN HAVE HIGH QUALITY PROGRAM FOR THE STUDENTS WE SERVE. AND HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THE BOARD MAY HAVE. ANY QUESTIONS TRUSTEES? DO WE KNOW THE TOTAL FISCAL TAG OF THE BILL? I BELIEVE IT'S A COUPLE HUNDRED MILLION ACROSS THE STATE. NOT EVERY COUNTY HAS COURT SCHOOLS. AND THE NUMBERS ARE RELATIVELY SMALL, SO I BELIEVE IT'S AROUND A COUPLE HUNDRED MILLION. AND WOULD THERE BE A SITUATION WHERE THERE ARE LIKE WINNERS AND LOSERS, OR WOULD ALL COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BENEFIT? IT SHOULD BE THAT ALL COURT AND COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BENEFIT BASED ON THE PROPOSED FORMULA. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OKAY. THANK YOU, DR. DEWAN, FOR THE INFORMATION. AND THANK YOU TRUSTEES FOR THE DISCUSSION. THIS BRINGS US TO CLOSED SESSION. THE BOARD IS ABOUT TO ENTER INTO CLOSED SESSION. CLOSED SESSION INVOLVES CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION. ONCE IN CLOSED SESSION, I WILL CALL THE CLOSED SESSION TO ORDER AND REQUEST THAT EACH TRUSTEE STATE THEIR NAME TO RECORD WHO IS IN ATTENDANCE TO AFFIRM AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE PARAMETERS FOR THE CONDUCT OF BUSINESS IN THE CLOSED SESSION. I'M NOT SURE WHERE TRUSTEE SREEKRISHNAN WENT BUT WE'LL GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED. WELCOME BACK. WE ARE READY TO RESUME OPEN SESSION UPON COMPLETION OF AGENDA ITEM 7 THERE ARE NO REPORTABLE ACTIONS. [A. Report of Actions Taken in Closed Session] MOVING ON TO AGENDA ITEM NUMBER 9 INFORMATION ITEMS. BEFORE WE BEGIN WITH OUR INFORMATION ITEMS IF THERE ARE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON THE INFORMATION ITEM, PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKER CARD HAS BEEN COMPLETED. ONCE WE BEGIN THIS ITEM, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCEPT ADDITIONAL COMMENT CARDS. DR. DEWAN WILL YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE THE FIRST ITEM? [A. Charter Schools Update] OUR FIRST ITEM THIS EVENING IS THE CHARTER SCHOOLS UPDATE AND THIS EVENING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FAIRLEY WILL PROVIDE AN UPDATE, INCLUDING PROVIDING SOME ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATIONS ON THE RESPECTIVE ROLES AS IT RELATES TO SUMMIT DENALI AND THEIR POTENTIAL CLOSURE. [00:45:05] EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FAIRLEY. THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING PRESIDENT CHON, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDENT DEWAN, STAFF AND COMMUNITY. I HAVE TWO UPDATES FOR YOU. FIRST, THIS EVENING I'M PROVIDING A FURTHER UPDATE ON THE POTENTIAL CLOSURE OF SUMMIT DENALI. THE SUMMIT BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS A SPECIAL MEETING TOMORROW AT 12 NOON PRECEDING ITS REGULAR MEETING THAT STARTS AT ONE. THE SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA IS LIMITED TO CONSIDERATION AND ACTION ON THE POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF SUMMIT DENALI. THE CHARTER SCHOOLS DEPARTMENT STAFF WILL BE ATTENDING BOTH THE REGULAR AND SPECIAL MEETING. WE WILL HAVE STAFF MEMBERS AND ATTENDANCE AT THE REDWOOD CITY HOME OFFICE AND AT THE REMOTE LOCATIONS AT TAHOMA AND DENALI. TONIGHT MY REPORT IS FOCUSED ON THE ROLE OF THE SUMMIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE ROLE OF THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT AND COUNTY COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION REGARDING DENALI'S OPERATIONS AND POSSIBLE CLOSURE. THESE ROLES ARE NOT THE SAME AND WE HOPE THIS UPDATE WILL BE INFORMATIVE TO THE COUNTY BOARD AND HELPFUL TO THE PUBLIC'S UNDERSTANDING OF THESE DIFFERENT ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. WE WILL BEGIN WITH THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE. WE WILL BEGIN WITH ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AROUND GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT. SUMMIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, A CALIFORNIA CORPORATION IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND OPERATES DENALI AND OTHER SUMMIT SCHOOLS, INCLUDING TAHOMA. ALTHOUGH SUMMIT'S BOARD HAS DELEGATED DAY TO DAY MANAGEMENT OF ITS CHARTER SCHOOLS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, ANY DECISION TO CLOSE DENALI MUST BE MADE BY THE SUMMIT BOARD. DENALI IS A COUNTYWIDE BENEFIT CHARTER SCHOOL AUTHORIZED BY THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION. SO THE COUNTY BOARD, COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT AND HER STAFF HAVE OVERSIGHT OF DENALI. THE COUNTY BOARD DELEGATES, THE COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT OR HER DESIGNEE. THE ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTION OF MONITORING AND OVERSIGHT OF THE CHARTER SCHOOLS IT AUTHORIZES. THE GOVERNANCE AND OPERATION OF DENALI BY SUMMIT'S BOARD AND SUMMIT'S STAFF IS A SEPARATE AND DISTINCT FROM THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION'S OVERSIGHT FUNCTION. SUMMIT HAS RESPONSIBILITY FOR OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT OF SUMMIT DENALI, INCLUDING THE CORPORATION AND THE SCHOOL'S FINANCES. SUMMIT MUST OPERATE DENALI IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF LAW, DENALI'S CHARTER AND THE MOU AND ADDENDUM THAT DENALI AND SUMMIT HAVE WITH THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION AND MUST FOLLOW SOUND FINANCIAL PRACTICES. THE SCCOE DILIGENTLY, CARRIES OUT OVERSIGHT AND MONITORING OF SCCOE BY AUTHORIZED CHARTER SCHOOLS, INCLUDING DENALI. CHARTER SCHOOL STAFF, PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, ADVICE AND SUPPORT TO CHARTER SCHOOLS TO HELP THE CHARTER SCHOOL OPERATORS AND SCHOOLS PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH EDUCATIONALLY SOUND PROGRAMS AND COMPLY WITH THE LAW, THEIR CHARTER, THEIR MOU AND APPROPRIATE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT AND HER STAFF DO NOT CONTROL OR HAVE RESPONSIBILITY FOR DENALI'S DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING SUMMIT AND DENALI'S FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, UNLESS THEY ENGAGE IN FISCAL MISMANAGEMENT OR VIOLATE THE LAW THE MOU OR THE CHARTER, INCLUDING FAILURE TO PURSUE OR MEET PUPIL OUTCOMES. THE NEXT TOPIC I WANT TO ADDRESS IN TERMS OF ROLE AND ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IS FUNDING. DENALI FUNDING IS SET BY CALIFORNIA AND FEDERAL LAW. DENALI IS NOT FUNDED BY THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION, AND THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION DOES NOT DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF DENALI'S FUNDING ENTITLEMENT. AS THE SOURCES OF FUNDING ARE NOT WITHIN THE COUNTY OFFICE'S CONTROL. SUMMIT HAS REPORTED THAT VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE CALIFORNIA LOCAL CONTROL FUNDING FORMULA, OR LCFF AND FEDERAL EDUCATION FUNDING HAVE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED THE AMOUNT OF DENALI'S FUNDING IN RECENT YEARS. SUMMIT PROJECTS THOSE FUNDING SHORTFALLS TO CONTINUE AND HAS STATED THE FUNDING SHORTFALLS CONTRIBUTE TO DENALI BEING FINANCIALLY UNSUSTAINABLE. THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DENALI'S OPERATION COSTS OR DEBTS. THE COUNTY OFFICE DOES NOT FUND SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTY OR FILL STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING GAPS FOR EITHER CHARTER SCHOOLS OR DISTRICT SCHOOLS. NOW MOVING ON TO THE TOPIC OF DENALI'S POTENTIAL CLOSURE. THE MANNER IN WHICH SUMMIT EXPENDS ITS FUNDS IS WITHIN THE DISCRETION OF THE SUMMIT BOARD AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT ENGAGE IN FISCAL MISMANAGEMENT, VIOLATE GENERALLY ACCEPTED [00:50:03] ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES, THE LAW, ITS CHARTER OR MOU AND ADDENDUM. THE DISCRETION OF THE SUMMIT BOARD INCLUDES AUTHORITY OVER WHETHER TO OPERATE AND FUND DENALI IN FUTURE YEARS. IN TERMS OF ONGOING OVERSIGHT SUMMIT IS SUBJECT TO PUBLIC TRANSPARENCY LAWS, INCLUDING THE BROWN ACT, WHICH REQUIRES SUMMIT TO HOLD OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS. ANY DECISION TO CLOSE DENALI MUST BE MADE BY THE SUMMIT BOARD IN AN OPEN MEETING. THE CHARTER SCHOOLS DEPARTMENT STAFF HAS CONTINUED TO STRESS TO SUMMIT THE IMPORTANCE OF OPERATING WITH TRANSPARENCY AND KEEPING THEIR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS, INCLUDING FAMILIES AND SUMMIT STAFF, INFORMED ABOUT SUMMIT AND DENALI'S OPERATIONS AND THE POTENTIAL CLOSURE OF DENALI. WE PUSHED SUMMIT TO INFORM THEIR FAMILIES AND STAFF AS SOON AS WE WERE INFORMED OF THE POTENTIAL CLOSURE SO THAT FAMILIES AND STAFF WOULD HAVE AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE TO PLAN. OVER TIME WE HAVE ALSO EMPHASIZED TO SUMMIT THE IMPORTANCE OF HOLDING ITS BOARD MEETINGS AT TIMES AND IN LOCATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THEIR COMMUNITY, INCLUDING FAMILIES AND STAFF, PARTICULARLY WHEN CONSIDERING IMPORTANT ISSUES SUCH AS THE POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF DENALI. DURING THE LAST MEETING ON FEBRUARY 15TH, THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION HAD SUMMIT REPRESENTATIVES EXPLAIN THE CONCERNS THAT HAVE LED TO DENALI'S POSSIBLE CLOSURE AND ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW THIS SITUATION GOT TO THIS POINT. FURTHER, THE CHARTER SCHOOLS DEPARTMENT IS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN OVERSIGHT OF DENALI AND TAHOMA. WE ARE IN REGULAR CONTACT WITH SUMMIT. WE ENGAGE IN WEEKLY MEETINGS WITH SUMMIT ABOUT DENALI, AND WE HAVE ASKED SUMMIT FOR UPDATES ON HOW IT IS ASSISTING DENALI FAMILIES TO LOCATE OTHER SCHOOL OPTIONS, BOTH WITHIN AND OUTSIDE THE SUMMIT NETWORK. SHOULD THE SUMMIT BOARD TAKE ACTION TO CLOSE DENALI WE WILL ALSO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO SUMMIT TO HELP ENSURE IT COMPLIES WITH ALL THE REQUIRED CLOSURE PROCEDURES, INCLUDING THE MAINTENANCE AND TRANSFER OF STUDENT AND PERSONNEL RECORDS. COMPLETION OF A FINAL AUDIT AND DISPOSITION OF DENALI'S ASSETS. BEFORE CONCLUDING MY UPDATE ON SUMMIT DENALI, I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC MAY ATTEND THE SUMMIT BOARD MEETING IN PERSON OR VIA TELECONFERENCE. SUMMIT WILL USE A TELECONFERENCE SYSTEM TO ALLOW MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO VIEW, SPEAK AT AND LISTEN TO THE MEETING FROM ANY LOCATION. ADDITIONALLY, BECAUSE SUMMIT HAS SCHOOL SITES IN MULTIPLE COUNTIES IN CALIFORNIA, IT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A MEETING SPACE AT EACH SCHOOL SITE WITH TWO WAY COMMUNICATION TO THE ACTUAL MEETING SITE IN REDWOOD CITY. SUMMIT HAS CONFIRMED THEY WILL MEET THIS REQUIREMENT AND WILL HAVE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR THE PUBLIC AT SUMMIT AND DENALI. THIS CONCLUDES MY UPDATE ON SUMMIT PUBLIC SCHOOLS DENALI. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A SECOND ITEM WITH YOU THIS EVENING, AND THAT ITEM IS ON THE 2021-22 FINANCIAL AUDITS FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS. IN NOVEMBER 2022, TWO CHARTER SCHOOLS, ACE EMPOWER AND DOWNTOWN COLLEGE PREP ALUM ROCK REQUESTED EXTENSIONS AND BOTH WERE GRANTED. SINCE THAT TIME, ACE HAS HAD ITS AUDIT COMPLETED AND HAS SUBMITTED IT TO SCCOE. DCP HOWEVER, RECENTLY CONTACTED SCCOE REQUESTING AN ADDITIONAL EXTENSION BECAUSE ITS AUDITOR IS SHORT STAFFED AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE AUDIT BY THE PREVIOUSLY AGREED UPON DATE. DCP NOTIFIED ITS BOARD, WHICH ADOPTED A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE TIMELINE FOR COMPLETING THE AUDIT. THAT RESOLUTION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO SCCOE AND WE WILL NOTIFY THE CDE. THIS CONCLUDES MY REPORT FOR THE EVENING. THANK YOU FOR THE REPORT. BEFORE WE BEGIN WITH QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM THE TRUSTEES, WE WILL HEAR FROM ANY PUBLIC COMMENTERS. MODERATOR DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENT ITEMS FOR THIS? PUBLIC COMMENTS FOR THIS ITEM? THANK YOU. THERE ARE CURRENTLY ZERO PUBLIC COMMENTS. THANK YOU MODERATOR. THEN I WILL GO TO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE TRUSTEES. OKAY. SEEING NONE. THANK YOU. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FAIRLEY FOR YOUR REPORT. DR. DEWAN, WOULD YOU PLEASE INTRODUCE THE NEXT INFORMATIONAL ITEM? [B. First Reading of Board Bylaw 9110 Terms of Office] YES, THANK YOU. TONIGHT WE HAVE FOR FIRST READING A REFRESH OF THE BOARD BYLAW 9110 ENTITLED TERMS OF OFFICE. THIS BYLAW REFLECTS OUR EFFORT TO UPDATE SOME OF OUR POLICIES WHEN THEY COME BEFORE THE BOARD TO SUPPORT INCLUSIVE GENDER [00:55:09] PRONOUNS. THE PRIMARY REASON THAT THIS BOARD BYLAW IS BEING BROUGHT FORWARD IS BACK IN 2019, THE CALIFORNIA VOTING RIGHTS ACT WAS IMPLEMENTED ACROSS THE STATE AND AN AMENDED GOVERNMENT CODE RELATED TO TERMS OF OFFICE FOR COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS MOVING THE TERM OF OFFICE TO BEGIN THE SECOND FRIDAY IN DECEMBER. AND THE REASON FOR THIS CHANGE WAS BECAUSE THE CALIFORNIA VOTING RIGHTS ACT ALLOWS FOR A LONGER WINDOW FOR BALLOTS TO BE SUBMITTED AN COUNTED AND PROCESSED, THAT THE ELECTION RESULTS COME OUT LATER THAN THEY USED TO. AND SO AS A RESULT, THE STATE AMENDED TERMS OF OFFICE. WE HAVE BEEN IN COMPLIANCE WITH THIS CHANGE ALL ALONG, BUT WE'RE JUST UPDATING THE BOARD BY LAW TO REFLECT THE GOVERNMENT CODE. OKAY. THANK YOU DR. DEWAN. THEN THAT BRINGS US TO COUNTY BOARD MEMBER REPORTS. [A. Committee members may provide or report on recent committee activities.] AT THIS TIME, WE WILL HEAR COMMITTEE REPORTS FROM COMMITTEES THAT HAVE MET SINCE OUR LAST MEETING. TWO COMMITTEES HAVE MET. THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE JLAC AND THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION. DR. DEWAN, WOULD YOU PLEASE SHARE ABOUT THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE? YES. THANK YOU, JLAC MET TODAY AND WE APPOINTED A CHAIRPERSON. PRESIDENT CHON WILL BE CHAIRPERSON OF OUR JLAC MEETINGS. WE ALSO DISCUSSED ASSEMBLY BILL 906, THE GIBSON BILL THAT WE TALKED ABOUT EARLIER ON OUR AGENDA. WE HEARD AN OVERVIEW OF THE GOVERNOR'S JANUARY BUDGET PROPOSAL AND WE SHARED ABOUT FIVE OF THE BILLS THAT THE COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION IS CO-SPONSORING ALONG WITH OTHER ENTITIES. THANK YOU. THANK YOU DR. DEWAN. TRUSTEE MAH. WOULD YOU PLEASE GIVE A REPORT ABOUT THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION? ACTUALLY, I DID NOT ATTEND, SO I DON'T HAVE A REPORT, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF THE OTHER TRUSTEES MIGHT HAVE GONE. TRUSTEE BERTA WOULD YOU LIKE TO GIVE A LITTLE REPORT? YEAH. I THINK I SUMMARIZED IT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER, BUT THERE WAS A NICE, A GUEST SPEAKER THAT CAME AND I KNOW A LOT OF THE CANDIDATES WHICH WERE VOTED ON FOR THE PREVIOUS BOARD MEETING REGARDING THEIR CANDIDACY ALSO SPOKE. KIND OF A HIGH LEVEL, BUT. THINK THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH IT. DR. DEWAN IF THERE'S ANYTHING I CAN JUST ADD THE PANEL DISCUSSION THAT TRUSTEE BERTA WAS REFERRING TO ALSO INCLUDED FACILITATION BY VAISHALI SIRKAY FROM THE LOS ALTOS SCHOOL DISTRICT, WHO ALSO IS A MEMBER OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE COMMISSION, THE JJC. AND SHE HAD INVITED LACEY TO SPEAK, AND ALSO DR. BONDURIS FROM OUR TEAM TO SPEAK. AND THE TOPIC WAS ABOUT EXPULSIONS AND EXPULSION EXCLUSIONARY PRACTICES AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND ALTERNATIVES. SO I AGREE WITH TRUSTEE BERTA IT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND I WANT TO CONGRATULATE DR. BONDURIS FOR HER WORK THAT EVENING. THANK YOU. ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMITTEE REPORTS I MAY HAVE MISSED? OKAY, MOVING ON. THEN THAT BRINGS US TO OUR NEXT AGENDA ITEM. [A. The superintendent may give a report on any activities related to her duties.] THE SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT DR. DEWAN. SO MY FIRST ITEM IS A CELEBRATION. EACH YEAR, THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE HOFFMAN AWARDS. THE HOFFMAN AWARDS ARE NAMED AFTER FORMER COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT HERE IN SANTA CLARA, GLENN HOFFMANN. THIS YEAR, THERE ARE FIVE WINNERS, AND I'M GOING TO ANNOUNCE ALL FIVE. THE FIRST IS THE LIUNA PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM AT BLUE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL FROM THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR STAFF. [APPLAUSE]. SECONDLY, THE STEPPING UP FOR SUCCESSFUL POST-SECONDARY TRANSITIONS FROM THE LOS GATOS SARATOGA UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE MILPITAS DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM AT THE MILPITAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE CHILD DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY FROM PALO ALTO SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THE JUNTOS SPANISH-ENGLISH DUAL IMMERSION PROGRAM FROM SUNNYVALE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE HOFFMANN AWARDS DINNER CEREMONY IS PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 10TH. YOU ARE ALL INVITED. THIS YEAR WILL BE AT THE METROPOLITAN EDUCATION DISTRICT FROM 6 TO 9 P.M. FOR THAT EVENT. AND WE WILL, AS IS OUR TRADITION, OUR VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT HERE, LED BY THE AMAZING [01:00:03] LINDSAY WONG, WILL BE PREPARING VIDEOS OF THE HOFFMANN AWARD WINNERS THAT WILL BE REVEALED THAT EVENING. AND IT IS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENING EACH YEAR. I DID WANT TO PROVIDE JUST A BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING MASKING AND MASKING SCIENCE AND SOME OF OUR REQUIREMENTS. WE ARE STILL MASKING REQUIRED. WE'LL BE MOVING TO STRONGLY RECOMMENDED SOON. PART OF THE REASON THAT WE ARE STILL MASKING IS THAT THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY'S WASTEWATER DATA CAME OUT RIGHT BEFORE WE WERE PREPARING OUR GUIDANCE UPDATE AND TRANSMISSION MOVED FROM MEDIUM TO HIGH. AND UNDER THE CAL OSHA GUIDANCE, WE ARE REQUIRED TO LOOK AT THAT DATA. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE JUST COMING BACK FROM BREAK FROM THE WINTER BREAK AND THERE WERE HIGH NUMBERS OF REPORTED POSITIVE CASES. BUT AROUND THAT SAME TIME, A REPORT WAS RELEASED FROM THE CDC. THEY RELEASED A SCIENCE BRIEF THAT SHOWED THE BENEFITS OF MASKING INDOORS AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THOSE MASKS, DIFFERENT TYPES OF MASKS. AND THAT WILL ALSO BE SHARING WITH OUR DISTRICT PARTNERS. ON FEBRUARY 22ND, I ATTENDED THE GROUNDBREAKING FOR THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES BUILDING. THIS IS A REALLY SPECTACULAR OPPORTUNITY FOR THE COUNTY. IT WILL HAVE ADOLESCENT BEDS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO NEED MORE SIGNIFICANT TREATMENT WHEN IT OPENS. AND WE CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE ANY HOSPITALIZATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS WITHIN OUR COUNTY. SO THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT OUR COUNTY IS MAKING THIS TYPE OF INVESTMENT. I ATTENDED THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION ZOOM MEETING THAT EVENING AS WELL. ON THE FEBRUARY 24TH, I GAVE A WELCOME AT THE CALIFORNIA COUNCIL OF THE SOCIAL STUDIES ADMINISTRATIVE COLLOQUIUM. IT WAS STATEWIDE CONFERENCE HELD HERE IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY, AND THE THEME WAS ON DEMOCRACY AND YOUTH VOICE. THAT SAME DAY I ATTENDED OUR FENTANYL AWARENESS WORKING GROUP MEETING, OUR COUNTYWIDE MEETING AND THE WOMEN'S SUMMIT COMMITTEE PLANNING MEETING. THE WOMEN'S SUMMIT THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE HELD ON APRIL 29TH. THERE WILL BE MORE INFORMATION TO COME, BUT AGAIN, TRUSTEES WILL ALL BE INVITED TO ATTEND THE WOMEN'S SUMMIT. ON FEBRUARY 27TH, I ATTENDED A MEETING WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TECHNOLOGY. SANTA CLARA COUNTY IS BEING ASKED TO HOST A BAY AREA MEETING WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TECHNOLOGY TO TALK ABOUT DIGITAL EQUITY AND ACCESS AND TO GET FEEDBACK FROM PARTNERS. SO MORE TO COME ABOUT THIS, BUT WE HAVE OFFERED TO HOST THIS REGIONAL MEETING AT OUR FACILITY AND AS SOON AS WE KNOW MORE, I WILL SHARE THAT WITH ALL OF YOU AS WELL. AND ON FEBRUARY 27TH, I ATTENDED THE CHILDREN'S AGENDA LEADERSHIP COUNCIL, WHERE WE'RE PLANNING THE CHILDREN'S SUMMIT. AS A REMINDER, THE SUMMIT IS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 17TH. AND THERE ARE STILL A FEW SEATS AVAILABLE IF ANY TRUSTEE WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND. DO PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY FRIDAY. THE REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT THAT DAY. I WANTED TO LET THE BOARD KNOW THAT WE HAVE SCHEDULED A COUPLE OF SITE VISITS. I'LL HAVE THE INFORMATION IN THIS WEEK'S WEEKLY TO THE BOARD, BUT I'M INVITING YOU TO JOIN ME TO TOUR BLUE RIDGE SCHOOL ON APRIL 14TH AND TO VISIT OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM AND OUR OPPORTUNITY YOUTH ACADEMY IN SAN JOSE ON MAY THE 2ND. LASTLY, I THINK THERE'S BROAD AGREEMENT THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO SEE THE IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE. AND ONE OF THE EFFORTS I'VE BEEN A PART OF FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS OR SO IS ALONG WITH A GROUP OF 50 EXPERTS WHO HAVE BEEN WORKING TO DEVELOP A REPORT CALLED CLIMATE RESILIENT CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS A CALL TO ACTION. THIS CALL TO ACTION IS A BLUEPRINT ON HOW WE CAN ACTIVATE TK THROUGH GRADE 12 SCHOOLS TO RESPOND TO THE CHALLENGES OF CLIMATE CHANGE. OUR CLIMATE READY SCHOOLS COALITION HAS BEEN ENGAGED IN THIS WORK AND I'M DELIGHTED TO FINALLY BE ABLE TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR REPORT IS BEING RELEASED TOMORROW. I WILL BE SURE TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THIS TO THE BOARD IN THE WEEKLY. THIS REPORT MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS RELATED TO SUSTAINABLE CLIMATE RESILIENT SCHOOLS IN THREE TOPIC AREAS, INCLUDING CAMPUS COMMUNITY AND CURRICULUM. THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT. THANK YOU, DR. DEWAN. AND THAT BRINGS US TO ADJOURNMENT. [01:05:03] THE NEXT SANTA CLARA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 15TH, 2023. MAY I HAVE A MOTION TO ADJOURN? SO MOVED. SO MOVED BY TRUSTEE BERTA. AND A SECOND. SECOND. AND A SECOND FROM TRUSTEE LARI. THANK YOU. WE ARE NOW ADJOURNED. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
