HER WARM DEMEANOR MAKES HER APPROACHABLE. I KNOW I CAN GO TO KRYSTAL FOR ANY KIND OF WONDERMENT I MAY HAVE, OR A HEAD SCRATCHER THAT I JUST CAN'T FIGURE OUT.
ON A PERSONAL SIDE, KRYSTAL IS A MOTHER OF THREE YOUNG MEN WHO I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO MEET.
HER SONS WERE HEAD START STUDENTS, SO OUR PROGRAM IS NEAR AND DEAR TO KRYSTAL.
SHE IS A FULL TIME EMPLOYEE, A FULL TIME MOM, AND STILL FINDS TIME TO ATTEND NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, WHERE SHE IS WORKING TOWARDS HER BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION.

SPRING SEMESTER STARTED AND WE ARE STARTING THE YEAR WITH GRADUATION CELEBRATION.
ON JANUARY 17TH, THREE OF OUR STUDENTS WILL BE GRADUATING.
THIS PAST WEEK, I WAS ABLE TO MEET WITH THE NEW SOCIAL STUDIES COORDINATOR, MISS CHRISTINA, ABOUT MY PROJECT. I LOOK FORWARD TO FINALLY GETTING TO RESUME THIS PROJECT AND GIVING THE STUDENTS A CHANCE FOR THEIR VOICE TO BE HEARD.
THIS INCLUDES ART OF YOGA, FEET FIRST, BOXING, AND PLANNED PARENTHOOD.
AT BLUE RIDGE, A NEW COHORT STARTED LAST WEEK.
THIS IS A 12 WEEK PROGRAM THAT OFFERS CAREER EDUCATIONAL TRAINING THROUGH THE LABOR UNIT AND OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH TO EARN DIFFERENT CERTIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT ON BEHALF OF ALL STUDENTS IN CORE SCHOOLS, WE ARE GRATEFUL TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE ACCESS TO ALL THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THAT CAN HELP US IN OUR FUTURE. I AM SAD TO INFORM EVERYONE THAT THIS WILL BE MY LAST BOARD MEETING AS A STUDENT BOARD MEMBER.
I HAVE LEARNED AND GAINED SO MUCH FROM THIS EXPERIENCE.

IS THIS DECISION LEGAL? WHY DID THE SCCOE FAIL TO HONOR THE PROVISIONS OF HIS IEP? THIS ACTION HAS EFFECTIVELY DENIED MY SON THE OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATION AND IS CAUSING HIM TO REGRESS.

THERE ARE MORE ELECTED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, BUT IT'S JUST NICE TO SEE THIS RECOGNITION AS POPULAR AS KOREAN CULTURE IS RECENTLY. IT IS ALSO A SMALLER GROUP OF ASIANS THAT ARE REPRESENTED IN THE BAY AREA.
WHEN I WAS GOING TO SCHOOL, PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT KOREA WAS AT ALL.
AND SO AND I WAS ONE OF THREE KOREANS IN MY SIXTH GRADE CLASS.
THE OTHER ONE BEING MY SISTER. AND SO THERE WAS ONE OTHER PERSON THAT WAS WITH US, AND WE JUST HAD THIS CONNECTION BECAUSE IT'S LIKE, OH, WE'RE KOREAN AND NOBODY ELSE IS. WE MET ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 10TH, AND WE HAD DOCTOR HINMAN PROVIDE SOME OPENING REMARKS ON SPECIFICALLY EMPHASIZING EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. WE HAD A LOT OF COMMUNITY SHARE OUTS, WHICH WAS GREAT.
A LOT OF MEMBER PARTICIPATION HIGHLIGHTING ONGOING INITIATIVES.
THERE'S AN UPCOMING NEURODIVERSITY CELEBRATION, WHICH WAS LED BY ONE OF OUR STUDENTS.
SO I WILL ACTUALLY SHARE AND CIRCULATE THAT SIGN UP A STUDENT, A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, WHICH I JUST THINK REALLY PHENOMENAL TO BE CELEBRATING NEURODIVERSITY WEEK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH STANFORD.
AND THEN THERE'S ALSO BOOK STUDIES FOR YOUNG BOYS OF COLOR.
SO MAYBE I'LL SHARE SOME OF THOSE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WITH THE BOARD.
THERE'S A GUEST SPEAKER WHO JOINED DOCTOR JENNIFER YALE.
WE HAD AN UPDATE FROM AMANDA DICKEY, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS, WHO PROVIDED LEGISLATIVE UPDATES INCLUDING AB 49 AND SB 48, WHICH ENHANCE PROTECTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
AND THEN INCLUSION COLLABORATIVE RELATED UPDATES.
WE HAD ANNOUNCEMENTS ON THE RELEASE OF NEW RESOURCES LIKE THE DOWN SYNDROME TOOLKIT, EXPANDED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES, AND THE ONGOING GROWTH OF THE WARMLINE SUPPORT SERVICE.

SO THE STRONG START COALITION MET VIA ZOOM ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 14TH, 2025.SHE TALKED ABOUT TRAUMA RESPONSIVE AND RESILIENCE BUILDING PRACTICES FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATORS.
SHE MENTIONED THAT PRE-PANDEMIC, 50% OF ALL CHILDREN HAD SUFFERED FROM TRAUMA.
WE AGREED THAT THE INCIDENCE IS PROBABLY MUCH HIGHER POST PANDEMIC.
AND SHE HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIES TO MITIGATE THE IMPACT OF TRAUMA ON OUR STUDENTS.
IT WOULD BE VALUABLE FOR US TO WORK ON A RESOLUTION ON THE TOPIC TO SPREAD AWARENESS ON THE IMPACT OF ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES AND TOXIC STRESS ON THE SHORT AND LONG TERM HEALTH, WELL-BEING, AND ACADEMICS OF OUR STUDENTS, AND ALSO INCORPORATE THE US SURGEON GENERAL'S RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW TO BUILD A MORE RESPONSIVE, COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY. ALSO, THE STRONG START MEETING RENA DOMINGUEZ, MANAGER OF THE EARLY HEAD START PROGRAM AT SCCOE, ALSO PROVIDED A PRESENTATION ON SCCOE EARLY LEARNING SERVICES PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THE STRONG RESULTS OF OUR MOST RECENT PROGRAM QUALITY ASSESSMENTS. FINALLY, AMANDA DICKEY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS DEPARTMENT, PROVIDED AN OVERVIEW OF THE GOVERNOR'S JANUARY BUDGET PROPOSAL, INCLUDING THE STRONGER THAN EXPECTED FISCAL SITUATION OF THE STATE AND HIS CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN EXPANSION.

ON DECEMBER 19TH, I WAS IN SOUTH COUNTY TO STAND WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ADVOCATES IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY, WHO IS UNDER FEAR OF DEPORTATIONS. I WAS ALSO IN SOUTH COUNTY ON JANUARY 11TH WITH VARIOUS VOLUNTEERS TO HELP SPREAD AWARENESS ABOUT THE SUPPORT AND THE RIGHTS AVAILABLE TO RESIDENTS. AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT JANUARY IS NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION MONTH.

BUT I WENT REALLY FOR ONE REASON, AND THAT WAS TO SHARE THIS GREAT LETTER THAT WAS PRODUCED TO GO OUT TO ALL OF OUR DISTRICTS SO THEY CAN SIGN ON TO IN THE WAKE OF THE INCOMING ADMINISTRATION'S THREAT FOR MASS DEPORTATION.

AND, YOU KNOW, THREATS TO IDEA AND, YOU KNOW, AN ANTI-IMMIGRANT RHETORIC.
AND I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE HELP IN ENSURING OUR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS. LIMIT THEIR COOPERATION WITH IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT, AS IS THEIR RIGHT.
AND YOU KNOW, I KNOW I'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE, BUT I REALLY THINK THE COUNTY OFFICE OF ED SHOULD LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN, YOU KNOW, INCLUDING MARKETING MEDIA, ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO PROTECT OUR STUDENTS.
AND SO I THINK THAT WE HAVE STEPPED UP IN THIS CAPACITY DURING PREVIOUS PANDEMICS. AND I BELIEVE THIS IS OUR NEXT PANDEMIC.
